I have been working at CSG International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The Chicago office has the feel of a startup while still maintaining the stability of a big company. The tech is extremely challenging and the Ascendon product is very complex. After several years I am still learning something new every day.

In terms of benefits, CSG takes the cake. Unlimited vacation, paid parental leave, all kinds of insurance, even life insurance for dependents and random things like legal insurance. Some teams also get flexibility to work from home. They definitely care about you.

They have also made a lot of effort to listen to employees. Recently they started redoing the art across the office, got better coffee, created a relaxation room, and other things that often correlate with a modern work environment. I'm excited to see us continue to grow.

    Cons

The people can take a while to warm up and some never do. It's a high tech environment with a lot of fast moving projects so often times the crunch takes priority over coworker relationships. That's not to say you don't have support, but don't expect to be friends with everyone.

Also, getting ramped up can be difficult with such a complex technical product but if you show some initiative right away then you'll be successful. It took me over a year to feel comfortable. This isn't a good place to work if you don't have some tech chops.

    Advice to Management

It would be great if we could bust down some of the silos between the teams that tend to exist due to the divide in technology type - web, apps, etc. Allowing employees to see and impact the bigger picture more often would be very empowering.

I worked at CSG International (More than 8 years)

    Pros

People, culture, each employee is valued as a contrubutor
, everyone has a voice, thinking outside the box welcome, executive team really has open door policy

    Cons

New CEO in place so still trying to find his footing. He was previously COO so has history but role has expanded so there is still a little learning curve

    Advice to Management

None, keep rolling. Your employees are mostly long term ppl that know what needs to be done with little supervision. Trust them to do their every running of the company while exec team puts new plans in to effect

    Pros

CSG is a true meritocracy. If you are smart and work hard, you will be rewarded. Much of the senior leadership has been developed from within.

    Cons

There is real uncertainty about the North American cable/DBS space's future. CSG has a history of strategic under-commitment.

    Advice to Management

Diversify, Invest, and understand the current company. The winning strategy will be derived from understanding what CSG does well, and how you create value, today.

I have been working at CSG International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Strong commitment to work-life balance
    - Wide variety of projects with varying technical requirements means there's always something challenging available to do
    - Very talented co-workers, with lots of opportunity for self-improvement available

    Cons

    - Major changes in the industry are proving to be major hurdles in determining the direction the company wants to take with future growth
    - A heavy emphasis on cost-savings usually means hiring freezes, or the rare very minor downsizing
    - Technical promotions can be few and far between

    Pros

Great flexibility and work/life balance available here. Friendly people who always seem willing to work together for the good of the team.

    Cons

Major North American headquarters/facilities are in colder climates-but not much in their control there.

    Advice to Management

Keep the culture; it's great to work in a collaborative environment where people pull together towards common goals.

I have been working at CSG International as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

CSG assembled a very strong team to assist with providing the training for an Oracle 12.1 upgrade. Good project management and good people to work with.

    Cons

The project was daunting and the task to train over 8500 employees on all of the new processes was difficult. Most of the SME's involved were very pro-active but several were difficult to work with.

    Advice to Management

Convince the SME's to be more available to the training team.
