I have been working at CSL Behring full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

CSL is a large, profitable company. The likelihood of going out of business is essentially nil. As a large company there are many positions of various types with the opportunity to specialize and/or move to another department. One of the nice benefits is a low cost fitness center.

    Cons

CSL is a publicly traded company and therefore cares more about its shareholders than its employees. There are some nice benefits; fitness center, holiday party, and summer picnic. The company could afford to make the fitness center free. Instead of Hershey Park they now provide some goofy picnic thing on site. Same with the holiday party.
Management seems to care more about their performance evals than the employees underneath them. There is no respect for the knowledge of the employees. Decisions are made based on how it looks on the manager's resume. This causes excessive work that is not needed and not appreciated by management.
Reorganizations are not thought through before being made. Sometimes they are used to get rid of someone they don't want to keep as an employee any longer.

    Advice to Management

With the amount of money this company makes you can afford to spend more on research and your employees. You spend so much time trying to come up with projects to give yourself something to put on your eval that you don't care for how that impacts those under you.

    Pros

    Nice cafeteria, good onsite gym

    Cons

Toxic culture of intimidation, abuse and humiliation driven by incompetence.

There is a subculture of incompetent management at CSL who assume no responsibility for anything they do or produce. They hire new employees to fix decade-long problems, and throw them under the bus as soon as they try to make any substantial changes.

No commercial competence or skill whatsoever. Allowed its leadership position in the IVIG market to be taken over by a competitor, with no effort whatsoever to fight back.

Middle management positions are filled with friends of senior leaders from other companies who control their little fiefdoms through intimidation and fear. Senior leaders are openly hostile and insulting of lower level employees and do not take their thoughts or suggestions on anything.

HR is a ship of fools with no regard for culture or civil treatment of employees.

If you care at all about your career, stay away from this company.

    Advice to Management

What else can you say that hasn't already been said? You can't fire the entire senior leadership team at once, so it looks like they are stuck with the toxic culture until they retire

I worked at CSL Behring full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free popcorn in cafe on Monday. Newer offices. Products that help improve patient lives.

    Cons

Open work space plan. If you want privacy this isn't the place. Even the offices are glasses walled. This is on purpose as the directors are always watching. This place may seem great on the surface during an interview. They take your around and show off the building and it's amenities. The problem is when you work there they do not give you the support, direction or motivation needed to accomplish the many goals they want you to set. The review and goal setting process is very involved and is intentionally setup to make most employees fail. My problem as a new senior manager was brought in who came from another pharma company with a reputation of having a toxic culture. That person brought that toxic culture with them. Also age played a factor in my situation as even in my 40s I found myself the oldest in a department of millennials. Communication was very awkward. Millenials only know how to communicate through looking at screens. The culture at CSL is toxic in some departments. It appear with the realignment of HR2020 that positions will be eliminated and layoffs and firings will continue. The biggest expense is payroll and CSL is always trying to cut expenses. The accounting department leadership is a good ole boys and girls network that manages by fear, clock watching and unrealistic timelines and expectations.

    Advice to Management

Hire good people. Create a good culture and drive it into new manager hires. Do not let them bring their baggage iof bad corporate culture to the company. Actually value your employees don't just say you do. Don't lead by fear. Don't let ageism creep into the company like it has recently. Don't hire kids who you can program. Bring on people with real world experience.

I worked at CSL Behring full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A paycheck. A work environment where you can be completely clueless and successful, or completely disconnected and happily employed.

    Cons

Most demotivating place I ever worked for. Incompetent and overgrown management, lack of any culture – all promotions based on behind kissing. Managers notoriously take engineers ideas and run in front of higher ups to claim the credit. Sitting with all these deadbeats on daily meeting and listening of their statements is nerve wrecking. Avoid this mental institution…

I worked at CSL Behring full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

onsite gym, generous 401k match, ESOP program, good benefits.

    Cons

Run too lean. Not enough worker bees, too many directors/middle managers who have little to no idea what's involved in the everyday management of their cost centers. Management tries too hard to please internal customers despite not being suitably staffed to do so.

    Pros

Free popcorn in the cafeteria on Mondays.

    Cons

The morale and turnover is so bad that HR has initiated a program called “HR2020”, in hopes that by the year 2020, they may be able to increase moral and slow down the non-stop deluge of employees clamoring to leave… or as they try to spin it, “by 2020 we aim to create an atmosphere that retains talent”.

It's so bad that even the entire HR department in King of Prussia has turned over in the last 3 years or so.

    Advice to Management

Try promoting from within instead of constantly going external.

I worked at CSL Behring part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    LOW PAY REGARDLESS OF EXPERIENCE.
    UNSTABLE WORK HOURS.

    Cons

    VERY ADEQUATE TRAINING.
    OPPORTUNITY FOR ADVANCEMENT.

    Advice to Management

Consider basing pay on experience, and not job title. That would probably decrease turn around time with employees. Also be more flexible with availability where scheduling conflicts may occur. Especially for employees who have other jobs, and/or are in school.

    Pros

Great people. The facility (King of Prussia site) is very employee friendly. There is a gym and a cafeteria. And lots of other employee oriented programs. The projects I worked were challenging and interesting.

    Cons

None to speak of. I remember the climate control in the buildings was very inconsistent.
