I have been working at CSL Behring full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of the people you work with are great. The work we do really does help our customers (the patients). The vacation time you accrue is pretty good (about 4 weeks a year). The pay is decent, but could be better.

    Cons

Union operators make more money than most salary supervisors and do less work and less responsibility.
Upper management wants everyone to have a good "work to life balance" but it's blatantly obvious that it only applies to certain people/positions in the plant, definitely not all people/positions. Need to find alternative ways to compensate those people who are stuck at the plant more than others due to their positions/department.
Upper management does not spend much time on the floor and doesn't make rational decisions when it comes to things on the plant floor in certain departments.

    Advice to Management

Try to honestly be fair to ALL employees, not just those in the offices up front (I don't just mean upper management) EVERYONE works to make the company what it is, not just the people in the offices up front. Take care of your people on the production floor as well including managers, supervisors, and operators.

    Pros

The company cares about its patients and is involved in support and giving programs across the year and locations.

    Cons

Insufficient resourcing to adequately support growth. There are ambitious department goals plus a continuous need for employees to participate in other cross-functional projects.

    Pros

We save lives. You get to wear many hats and can get experience outside of your field. The people are pretty decent too.

    Cons

It is a union work force and a salary work force. It is not equal either by job performance or financially.

    Pros

Long term growth outlook is planned for this site. Steady and desirable product line. Good location. Family friendly community and close enough to the city of Chicago.

    Cons

Growing pains with the size and quickness of expansions. If you don't like union environments then this is not the place for you. Union pretty much controls the company and HR will not back their people and will lay over to the unions wants. Could be the down fall of this site.

    Advice to Management

Get control of your company and hold people accountable.

    Pros

Great culture and environment with a small company feel. It's a pleasure coming to work - the people are both smart and nice, with a true focus on patients. They also have a cafeteria and gym, and on-site services such as dry cleaning and car wash.

    Cons

    The King of Prussia Location

I have been working at CSL Behring full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has a rather generous 401k and time off policy. There is ample opportunity for lateral or upward movement within the organization over time, as well. I've had a few different managers in my tenure and have enjoyed working for each of them. The work isn't too tedious and I was able to take part in some interesting projects in my tenure.

    Cons

Dealing with the union has been the single biggest strain. Work-life balance can be difficult with long hours required at times. The pay is reasonable for the area, but is a bit low if you live much further north than Kankakee. Many employees know each other from the area or are related, and it sometimes feels a like a bit of a good 'ol boys club.

    Advice to Management

Hiring local is great, but at some point you hit the bottom of the barrel and need to attract people from beyond. It would also pay off tremendously to either remove or replace some of the people stuck in an outdated mindset if trying to be competitive in the 21st century.

I have been working at CSL Behring full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Research, manufacture and distribute biotherioes for patients with rare diseases.

    Cons

Very old school, good ol' boy mentality. Treat you based on your level. Closed minded. Oppressive atmosphere. High school, cliquish. No real vision from management. Poor leadership. Over worked employees.

    Advice to Management

Need to replace the lot of them for true leaders.

I have been working at CSL Behring (More than a year)

    Pros

Great autonomy to work your territory without Manager/Company micromanaging. Very patient focused company, truly puts the patient at the center of everything

    Cons

Very little opportunity for promotion unless you can take on 5-6 states as an RM or are able to move to Philly. No virtual jobs.

    Advice to Management

    Be flexible to virtual positions

    Pros

Small company feel, new office space, there is a gym and cafeteria.

    Cons

Chaotic environment. Management says one thing, but do another.

    Advice to Management

We want the company to make money too, but remember the patients we are serving.

I have been working at CSL Behring full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

New and expanded facility with mid-size cafeteria and a small gym (for $15/month fee). CSL have recently moved to a flexible Fridays to compete with other companies. The company also continue to invest in R&D, facility, and infrastructure (although still behind competitors from a technology standpoint). There are some great employees there that are loyal to the company and continue to work hard to support the patient community in mind. It is also a stable company from a financial perspective...so long as CSL direct compeitors continue to have supply challenge and CSL continue to reap in their mistakes.

    Cons

Work/life balance is non-existent here. There is an imbalance of strong, skilled, hardworking employees to lazy, mediocre, paycheck-seeker where the latter can easily get promoted so long as they play the political game, a brown noser, and/or part of the "boys club", A highly political work environment with "old-school" mentality. The salaries are lower than industry standards -- a -15% to -20% adjustments are made by HR post salary assessment for a position. CSL continue to lose young and hungry talent because they don't like to promote within. They preferred to hire outside (one that worked at a competitor company) for a "fresh" perspective. There is no defined development/training structure to help guide employees on a path forward. Plenty of "locker-room" talk here among male colleagues -- degrading female colleagues by comparing their chest size and who they preferred to "sleep" with if they have a chance. SLT team lacks vision, creativity, transparency, and leadership to carry through on their plans. Teams and functions continue to work in silos because everyone is afraid to share ideas and thoughts for fears of others (and mainly management) stealing ideas and taking credit for it. Plenty of decisions made from top-down versus taking comprehensive assessment from cross-functional team. And the hiring process is a long-winded and sometimes unprofessional since there is a good chance HR will not get back to you for weeks at a time. There are plenty of positions here that remained vacant for at least a year or sometimes more because CSL set the job unrealistic to the pay scale and looking for a canidate that "fit the culture" or rather easily molded to become the "yes man".

    Advice to Management

Promote from within, especially promote those that have been loyal and qualified for the job, not those that simply "showed up to work to be your friend and network". Competitive salary reflective of the job and responsibilities. Have a defined development plan for each functional area. Treat employees with respect. Stop building "walls" among your staff - let them into the conversation and get their perspective.
