I have been working at CSM Bakery Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have found the Sr. Management to be very open and transparent about the challenges the company is facing. I feel like they are in the fight with us. The executive team is not taking bonuses this year even though the company is paying bonuses - very few leadership teams would do that.

The truth is that the company went through a horrific SAP implementation that destroyed the North American business. But the company is focusing on the right things and recovering. This has included some leadership and organizational changes, but that should be expected given the recovery.

I really like the people at the company and everyone is open to new ideas and doing things differently. You have a real ability to make an impact. Although the company has had big challenges and is fighting its way back, I am glad to be along for the ride.

    Cons

The company is in recovery mode so everything is lean and mean. That definitely means that there is a focus on managing costs. I do think that there are still a lot of people who want to go back to the way the company used to operate and fight against the changes taking place, which can make moving forward challenging.

    Advice to Management

Keep communicating frequently about the company is doing and celebrating successes. I know that we are watching costs, but keep giving employees non-compensation based benefits to drive engagement - casual dress code and summer Fridays are appreciated!

I have been working at CSM Bakery Solutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The organization IS making improvements with optimizing processes and procedures, repairing legacy business partnerships, gaining momentum in recapturing business, and exploring innovation. Activities are now focused on fixing any lingering SAP issues than just pointing at them. There are a few progressive individuals who aspire to harness and guide their team's acumen to supporting the company's resurgence. So if you consider employment here, ask structured questions of your interviewers. Trust your instincts.

This is one "city" that understands what needs to be accomplished to present itself as a triumphant entity worth investing in.

    Cons

    Then there is the other...

The hierarchy of leadership is fraught with self-seeking charlatans still drunk on the illusion that they had no ownership in the business's recent predicament. Blaming SAP for EVERYTHING can only carry one's shortcomings so far. There is still avoidance with addressing poor leaders and what this evasion is doing to the global culture and personnel.

    Advice to Management

Your strengths continue to invigorate. And your deficiencies still have jobs. You know what lies ahead as all can hear the wheels of change turning rapidly. How you engage ALL levels of your organization during this time of renewal has direct consequences on how persuasively and quickly you meet your overall goals. True honesty and unity begets partnership in success.

I have been working at CSM Bakery Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Used to be a good company. Not anymore!

    Cons

If you like being in a toxic and VERY unethical work environment, then this is the place for you. Management doesn't care about their employees and the technology is ridiculously outdated. All departments work in their own silo and there isn't much collaboration which makes for double work across the board. C- level execs lie to your face and feed you a bunch of garbage to keep you interested, but in the end you can't trust anybody. If you're not in the inner circle or don't agree with their ideas, consider yourself black listed, and you should start looking for a new job. Joining this company was the worst decision that I’ve made!!

    Advice to Management

Hire a new CEO and Executive Team who know how to lead appropriately. You're doing a great job of blowing smoke!!
Good luck to you if you plan on working here since the present employees are all looking to jump ship as the company is going down hill fast!!

I have been working at CSM Bakery Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

To be determined..some recent changes will hopefully facilitate open communication without fear

    Cons

Lack of critical processes, training and accountability is killing the bottom line.
Department and individual goals are not S.M.A.R.T.
Too many departments dictating how orders and customers should be handled without thinking through the impact across the supply chain and to the customer.

    Advice to Management

STOP making decisions without collaborating with those that do the job daily. KEEP an open mind when employees suggest process improvements even though they're not your own. RECOGNIZE employee contributions when suggestions are implemented. Quit allowing our IT department to tell us what can't be done instead of telling us what can.

I worked at CSM Bakery Solutions full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Decent benefits. Perceived customer loyalty.

    Cons

Incredibly poor senior managment. Hidden agendas everywhere. Unethical accounting practices. Poor direction. No attempt to gain buy in. No transparency. Inability to understand customer needs. Pushing products no one is asking for. Recent quality issues are hurting the loyalty customers had to CSM brands.

    Advice to Management

No reason to advise. Everyone knows CSM is short term in its current form. Maybe the next owners can resurrect this once powerful company.
