I have been working at CSM Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I have worked at the corporate office for over 10 years and have very much enjoyed my time at CSM. There are a lot of talented and wonderful people at CSM that promote a team environment. The work is interesting and satisfying. The company is generous to its employees and many different charities.

    Cons

    I can't think of any.

I have been working at CSM Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generally competent staff, everybody who works there seems to know what they are doing.

    Cons

Not a meritocracy at ALL-seniority is far more valuable than actual skill.

I have been working at CSM Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great location, subsidized parking, decent benefits, employees are enjoyable, free fruit, work-paid lunches about once a week.

    Cons

I can't speak for the hotels, but the corporate culture is horrible. There is absolutely no informative communication, except weekly emails about people who have been fired or left the company. In the past year, the office has turned over 30% of the 100 person office - some positions twice. Executive mgmt has turned over 3 of the past 6 positions within the past year. Middle mgmt is normally hired from outside and not promoted from within. The owner doesn't trust that anyone can make a good decision so he continues to micromanage all real estate deals. The office is run very conservatively and stuck in the 1970s - no gender equity in promotions or decision-making.

    Advice to Management

CSM has a bad reputation in the marketplace (specifically for employee recruitment). Hire younger employees to do entry-level work, promote from within, focus on strategic decision-making, focus on employee development and training.

I have worked here close to 15 years and the people make the company. You couldn't ask for better co-workers.

    Cons

None that I can think of right now.

I worked at CSM Corporation full-time

    Pros

Great location in downtown Mpls with access to a gym and parking, free fruit, charitable work with Ronald McDonald House

    Cons

The worst corporate environment I have ever encountered. Unnecessary "emergencies" are created due to unclear expectations and poor planning. Also, lack of integrity amongst management. They are quick to throw someone else under the bus rather than admit to their part in the issue. It takes a real leader to admit they made a mistake and to learn from the experience.

    Advice to Management

Management should be held accountable. Getting rid of subordinates doesn't fix the real issue. More focus on employee development and career opportunities.

I have been working at CSM Corporation full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, location to bus stops, opportunities to learn on the job.

    Cons

The upper management are ruthless, and will fire anyone for any reason. Even bogus reasons, though they will try to justify their decisions. So, if you are looking for a job to work at for longevity purposes....keep looking. It is not safe here.

    Advice to Management

Stop firing the best people, stop the turnaround.
