Very good pay and benefits. If you want to work, you will make money. If you don't want to work, you won't.
Cons
It is corporate America, so it is ultimately about the money! No real sick pay. Just approved 5 extra days for sick but there are definitely stipulations to this. Most MTO's appear to always be out to catch you. It is their job but some take to another level.

Someday Change Gonna Come!! Yes It Will!!
Apr 13, 2023 - Freight Conductor in Baltimore, MDRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Decent Pay, Some Decent Coworkers that are willing to help and answer questions. New hire earn 100% pay upon markup. The new CEO seems like he wants to change the culture. They gave $123 for boot allowance.
Cons
Supervisors watch you like a hawk with eyes in the sky(Drones). Write ups for petty and made up infractions. Long hours, loss of social life.

Railroad...enough said
Mar 19, 2023 - Railroad Conductor in Indianapolis, INRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Pay is decent, even though contract literally got shoved down our throats....some mgmt is great, some is stuck in the old ways (enjoy firing people...but that's what job insurance is for)
Cons
Conductors work a 6&1 schedule on extra board, supposedly going to 6 &2 eventually...senority in some areas takes forever to acquire. And all of the class 1s are trying to do away with the conductor positions

This job is not for everyone; have a back up plan.
Apr 5, 2023 - Freight Conductor in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good Pay and Benefits Pretty easy work Rail Road Social Security is much better than normal Social Security.
Cons
No job security. Someone is always watching, from an office window, from their car, even hidden in bushes with binoculars. Toxic environment, management vs employees.

It’s The Railroad
Apr 11, 2023 - Freight Conductor in Jacksonville, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You can make a living wage.
Cons
It’s the railroad. It doesn’t matter the company the railroad industry as a whole wants all of your time all of the time.
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Pay is good. That's it
Cons
Literally everything sucks about it.
- Former Employee, less than 1 year★★★★★
Don't even consider it
Jan 17, 2023 - Freight Conductor in Selkirk, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The pay & Benefits are solid.
Cons
The schedule is absolutely terrible, they preach good benefits but what good are said benefits when you can't even schedule a day off? The crew callers will force you to work on approved days off. Overall employee morale is absolutely awful. You will spend days away from home with not a word from anyone as to when you will come home. You're essentially getting hired to get fired. The company is actively trying to talk the FRA and STD into removing the position entirely, so firing you makes it that much easier.
