I worked at CSX full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I worked side-by-side with some of the best people I've ever known.

    Cons

Senior leadership was weak, especially the last year Michael Ward and Clarence Gooden were there. Gooden's behavior was unethical, and Ward didn't have the courage to fire him. And it was an offense worthy of dismissal. Now, employees are overworked, and they cannot keep younger workers

    Advice to Management

Harrison is in over his head, and he knows it. Once 3rd quarter earnings are reported, he'll be under tremendous pressure. He's not a leader; he's a dictator. Nobody wants to follow him. He won't last much longer

"Great industry, pay and benefits, but agencies dominate leadership."

I worked at CSX full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. Most jobs are RR retirement, not social security. Big company footprint with opportunity to travel and move around the U.S.

    Cons

Due to weak leadership, department is led by multiple PR, public affairs and ad agencies instead of management team running the agencies.

    Advice to Management

You have a very cool mission and usually hire good people. Let the people you hire actually manage their scope of work rather than the multiple agencies and outside departments, and your in house team will learn, grow and likely stay on. (Jacksonville HQ is a extremely political place to work. Very top down).

I worked at CSX full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

In general, the company took care of the employees. They paid well, good bonuses when the company was doing well and decent benefits. Most of this will likely remain with the new management team.

    Cons

EHH has a history of paying well but working people very hard. He also cuts people that he doesn't think is needed. Lots of senior people are now gone and a lot of knowledge too. This will cause challenges as well as opportunity to those willing to fight for it.

    Advice to Management

CSX is not CN or CP. The geography is very different. This means you probably can't apply the exact same principles as was done for those other roads. As a stock holder, I wish the company continued success but very concerned about those that I worked with during my time there.

I have been working at CSX full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

If you are motivated by working with great people who all understand and are committed to a companies core values, you will love it here. CSX is a company that rewards its employees for hard work, innovation, and goes the extra mile to develop people.

    Cons

This is not really a con, but if you are looking to hire on to a company and coast through your career, this is not the place for you.
