I have been working at CSX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great craft people, good pay.

    Cons

Pressure from upper management that have no clue what it takes to get the work done. They pressure lower managers to get numbers that are not realistic and some fudge the numbers to meet these expectations.

    Advice to Management

Let the men do their job and stop with the daily quota's. Maintenance work takes time and if you want it done correctly stop trying to rush everything. If the craft is allowed to perform their job duties it will benefit the company in the long run.

I have been working at CSX full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent pay, decent union backing, decent benifits, you pay into railroad retirement instead of social security, your wife gets a retirement also.

    Cons

Poor management, bad work life balance, most employees have a poor outlook on life, relocation seems to be inevitable so dont plan on settling down.

    Advice to Management

We are no longer in the early 1900s. Treat your employees as assets and realize that the majority of your emplyees are alcoholics due to the fact that they are burnt out from no home life.

    Pros

The management benefits and entry wage rates are competitive, and the retirement is excellent. There are a wide range of career paths available within the company.

    Cons

The field operations management positions have little support, and very long, unconventional hours which makes the work/ Life ballance very difficult to successfully manage.

    Advice to Management

Need to retain and develop existing talent, while being selective with external talent that will be able to handle the lifestyle and want to stay invested in the companies long term success.

    Pros

Promoted you to learn more about the job and enhance your special skills required. Good company to work for and wonderful benefits

    Cons

The downside of the company is that it's a lot of wrong disrespectful people that are there. They need to realize it's difficult with the staff make changes

    Pros

They pay was very good. The vacations just got increased for management.

    Cons

They work you to no end. The railroad always comes first for field managers. They like to hire a lot straight out of college. Very tough for those who have never worked like this before.

    Advice to Management

Think about more then the bottom line. You say "People make the difference", but what you really means is "how much money can we make for the stock holders".

    Cons

POOR MANAGEMENT--Have some college experience? Don't know jack about the rail industry? Like treating your fellow man like dirt? HERE'S your OWN life sized choo-choo set; now go mess it all up, then blame it on your pawns!
