    Pros

Work is easy and pay is decent . Hr wage is good but once all the deductions come out it's about average pay.

    Cons

Buddy system , don't let the Union fool you. Culture here is penal , and the most important thing to this company is stock price and dividends. Stock holder > employee

    Pros

The pay and tuition reimbursement up to $3500, decent benefits. Seniority and the union, it's honestly hard for me to come up with anything else that I see as a positive.

    Cons

Very poor management, inability to move up in the company unless you are in with the right people regardless of education and abilities. Employees are not treated as assets or positives for the company and everyone mostly stays for the pay. Intimidation and good ol boy network is very strong here. There is no incentives to think outside the box status quo is what's expected and do not attempt to challenge long standing procedure's for lest you be accused of not being a team player. I work here currently but I desire to be challenged and promoted. If you desire higher than normal pay and not to be challenged in regards to your personal and professional development this is the place for you.

    Pros

I worked for CSX for 4 years in several different roles pay is great but you work a lot and arent home that often.

    Cons

Work on Call and are away from family to much. Talk about living a healthy lifestyle but the job doesn't allow for this is the crazy scheduling.

Want to give up your life? Work at CSX

Jul 21, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Jacksonville, FL

    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Pay is good for the area, so if you want to work in Jacksonville then it's the best option. -If you are reasonably intelligent, motivated, ambitious, and young, then there are lots of opportunities to advance.

    Cons

    - Pay isn't as great when you look at cities with similar cost of living. - The demand long hours, and vacation time is slow to accrue. - They value people who have worked in the field the highest, even if they don't know how to manage people. - They say they like diversity, but it depends. If you are female or African American, then they will do their best to make you feel welcome. If you are Indian or Asian, you should probably look for another company (and another city).

    Horrendous

    Oct 6, 2011 - Trainmaster
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

The initial pay is decent; just don't divide your pay by the hours you work. If you do, you'll likely cry and wonder why you ever went to college.

    Cons

I don't have the words to adequately describe the pervasiveness of incompetence that plagues this company. It's maddening to work with and incredibly time consuming. Virtually every aspect of working here is a "con". Don't consider employment with CSX unless you're in such dire need of money that you are on the brink of homelessness...and I'd bet that if hired, you'll look back and question whether or not its better to be homeless, or an employee of this company. Yes. It's that bad here.

They Don't Care About You or Anything Else But $$$

    Jun 4, 2021 - Sales and Marketing
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

None. Literally there is no reason anyone should want to work at a company.

    Cons

Everything. They will fire you for nothing. They pay well below industry standard for positions and force you to work 60+ hours a week. Vacations? Yeah, right. Vacations are more like going somewhere nice to just keep working. Family? Kiss them goodbye because you'll never really see them. When the old CEO left, so did the culture, values, and most importantly the ethics.

Joining pay is less compared with other companies but will work out good after staying for more than 5 years.

Sep 17, 2014 - Software Engineer in Jacksonville, FL

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good work environment. Year end bonus, Flexible timings those who work in Technology and long term retirement benefits.

    Cons

The pay depends on what field or technology you are working. Initial joining pay will be less compared with other companies. It increases 2 to 3 percent every year. The company offers good bonus every year but again it depends on company profits and individual performance. Do not depend on bonus. Also there is a TCU agency fee that some employees needs to pay monthly and it depends on percentage of salary. That will come around 70 to 100 dollars per month after tax money. Company does not offer promotions automatically depending on work experience. Need to look for job postings and apply.

    Sinking ship

    Aug 12, 2022 - Locomotive Engineer

    Business Outlook

    Pros

None anymore they have gutted it to nothing if you want to be gone all the time with no compensation apply

    Cons

Csx doesn’t care about you only the share holders. They run these long trains up to 14000 feet and have no where to park them so you sit on it 12 plus hours every trip then 30 plus in hotel get home for 10 then back out on the same stuff and they want to fire you every chance they get it. Can’t pay us a decent raise but we worked through pandemic with no extra compensation but don’t worry the company made record profits. Constantly have to check your check because they always try to screw you out of something.. if you want extra stress added to your life apply and like a company run by people with out any railroad knowledge then this is the job for you.

    Cons

Where do I begin, they placed stickers on back of the trucks (how's my driving) and no matter what if someone called the number u were guilty I worked in a small town and people are jealous if they know u are doing well for yourself so they wood call and lie about my driving I wouldn't even be in the area and yet csx would believe the crap they were fed, my work ethic was never questioned huh makes no sense does it, lousy management LOUSY
