Major Changes
Oct 20, 2017 - Inside Sales Representative in Jacksonville, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I worked with some amazingly intelligent people at CSX. There are plenty of people who are absolute experts in their field and are very willing to help you learn. Pay is pretty good. Very, very cool industry. Prior to all the changes I probably would've stayed with the company for longer.
Cons
New CEO H.H. has been jerking the company around. It is impossible to be heard if there is a "V" or "P" in front of your title. Environment is a cut throat now that everyone fears losing their jobs. It was honestly sad managing customers because service had deteriorated so much by the time I left. CEO publicly states that employees are the reason for why he has no succeeded.

pay is decent for MTO when bonus is good.
Cons
terminal MTO works 5 on 2 off if they are lucky, but unless you are at a MAJOR terminal (Waycross, Selkirk, etc)...no days off unless on vacation. 7 days a week and on call 24 hours a day. Promotion potential is alomst zero since they can't keep people in MTO jobs since they work 7 days a week.

Over 20 years of service now contract employees are worthless.
Cons
They find any reason to fire you. I hate my job, it's now a poisonous fear environment. I'm constantly threaten about job performance. Csx have cut jobs with less people and with less time to do the job they want more work done.

I had a great experience there
Mar 5, 2015 - Intern in Jacksonville, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Had a great experience. People in the company are friendly and hard-working. Mangers in my group are more like friends to the interns. Had a lot of training opportunity.
Cons
It is a big company, so whenever you need to launch a project, they will have people from different department, some are just trying to control the process, which in turn, slow down the process

Pros
The benefits are great and the working environment is wonderful. You get a chance to travel a lot and meet a lot of different people.
Cons
They expect you to work 24/7 unless you are a VP. They give opportunities for advancement based on skin color and not talent, education or work experience. They constantly put the wrong people in the wrong places.

Pros
The people are friendly and helpful. I spent much of my time learning from the more experienced employees, some of which with 40+ years there. Honestly, most of the employees are about to retire so they are more than willing to transfer their knowledge to you. Furthermore, pay was great. I made pretty good money fresh out of high school. The college interns made double what I made. Awesome.
Cons
At times there is a lot of down time and at others they are bombarding you with information. All in all, you were left alone which can be awkward for a new employee.

A great place to work!
Oct 16, 2019 - Digital Communications Manager in Jacksonville, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I get to be a teammate to some of the hardest working men and women in the United States. Coming from a different industry, I had little understanding on how important rail is to the U.S. economy. I didn't know how many different skill sets were needed to keep the railroad moving. I ignorantly assumed or generalized that there were conductors, engineers and others that support the rail...but not knowing much more. We have operations in the building and in the field, techies, analysts, sales, marketing, a police department and so many more. I have been fortunate to stand side-by-side with a diverse and fun group of craft employees, managers, and senior leadership that have an unparalleled drive. My colleagues are some of the most proud and passionate people I have ever had the pleasure to worked with. The company itself is always examining new and innovative ways to redefine rail freight and the technologies that support what we do. It's an exciting time to be working here! By the way, the pay is pretty awesome too!
Cons
While most have good work-life balance, some teams (at certain times) have more work than the typical 9-to-5ers. That being said, you have to remember that the railroad is running 24-7-365.

Overall pretty satisfied
Sep 26, 2008 - Information Technologist in Jacksonville, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The people I work with are all very professional and the work is very technically challenging. Management is pretty flexible on time and won't micro-mange unless you can't handle your job.
Cons
It's a good ol' boy type job.
