The job is fun, but you'll never get a raise.

    Pros

If you can't have fun doing radio, then you can't have fun. It's a laid back, casual work environment where you get to play music and talk for a living. The hours are not long (though you might have to work weekends) and the job is not especially stressful or demanding. It's just radio.

    Cons

Get as much money as you can up front, because you'll never get a raise. Your intelligence and wisdom from experience won't be worth very much because all the decisions come from corporate. Local management has very minimal input on how things are run. Your artistic freedom will be limited to what you can say in 30 seconds or less. And yes, you will be judged by your ratings despite the fact that you don't have much influence on the content of your show.

Radio is dying, and has no-one to blame but it-self

    Pros

Not quite as bad as Clear Channel, but not by much

    Cons

Cumulus Media, and companies like it, has ruined broadcasting. I know I sound "bitter", and perhaps I am. I can't help but remember when it used to be FUN to come to work. When I (and others) would actually look forward to come to work. Now--Staff is cut to the bone, equipment fails and is not replaced, and every month one waits to see if another ax is going to fall. Perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps things are better in other "markets"--but I don't think so. The entire industry is dying. A slow painful death, and that is a shame

    Typical corporate radio

    Pros

Sufficient equipment maintained in operable shape. Work colleagues are knowledgeable and friendly.

    Cons

Poor pay, management has little respect for the help. Management, if it could, would have no live bodies in the office and would rely completely on automation. Management forgets that it's PEOPLE who create the magic - not machines.

    Cumulus Killed The Radio Star!

    Pros

The only thing Cumulus had going for it was that you got to work in media. Radio was one of the funnest industries to be apart of.

    Cons

Lack of creativity and growth from the top on down. They don’t allow you to be a personality. Plus it was horrible work life balance, worse than normal for radio which is hard to beat. Pay was way below average because they would just pay someone to record it days ahead.
