    Pros

Potentially good location geographically in that it is located in New York City.

    Cons

One has to warn anyone who considers this for a postdoc: Low pay, lower than surrounding institutions. Many of the other institutions pay significantly more. No Subsidized affordable housing - unlike competing insitutions like NYU, that does offer housing to its postdocs. No Pension. Don't forget that CUNY isn't that prestigious a place.

You need to work hard to get CUNY to work for you.

    Pros

Lots of hidden systems to support your science and staffing approaches.I enjoy working here but it is a difficult system to navigate. You need a course in just being faculty here to really see the potential gains. I believe the pressures/expectations are reasonable but the administrative burdens are high when the system is stressed (pandemic). In addition to this, there's a constant perception that we have no money/ or resources when we often do. It's all about your outlook on how you will succeed as opposed to leaning on systems of support

    Cons

The Graduate Center is not very good in getting students or supporting them. I would recommend getting grants and hiring a technician and postdoc to make real gains on your science than waiting on good quality recruitment efforts from the GC. In addition to this, the RF is a little slow on getting you reimbursements. These are the problems of a top-heavy admin that doesn't get their job done and has a lot of diffusion of responsibility.
