    Pros

Hard working front line staff, wonderful clients

    Cons

Upper management abuses their power, uses clients for their own personal gain, ignores protocols for handling violent and abusive behavior

    Advice to Management

    Replace them all.

I worked at CVR full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Not many pros to working here. The pay is decent if you can stand working all day with inept management in all levels and all departments of the organization. The actual refinery personnel seem competent but higher level personnel in their office locations are truly lacking in professionalism and knowledge.

    Cons

The mid and upper management in their Sugar Land office and Kansas City office fight and argue non-stop over work assignments and who will do what. This really affects morale but the management doesn't care. The particular manager I worked for was extremely rude and incompetent with zero business acumen. The HR, Finance and IT departments are all pretty clueless when it comes to operating in an effective and efficient manner. You are expected to work VERY long days with no appreciation whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

Look closely at some of the higher paid office staff and the value that they are actually providing. Deep cuts could be made with minimal impact to operations.

I worked at CVR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The worker bees are good people, clean environment. Fair wage (benefits are horrible), middle management is ok..watch some of the women though...not so good.

    Cons

Terrible management, unorganized and lacking in worker satisfaction, HR is tremendously incompetent and on and on...

    Advice to Management

The CEO needs some work on his bedside manner. Employees are not likely to stick around when there is a habit of treating them poorly. All upper management needs to loose their God complexes. Its the actual worker who largely supports your million dollar bank accounts and lifestyle. Put your heads around that concept and you'll have a better company.

    Pros

Great Location.. some good, hardworking employees.

    Cons

The CEO and most of the Management team doesn't really care about the employees. There are some shady activities going on starting with HR. I would not recommend anyone I know to this company unless they address some of the Management problems.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to what's going on with your employees.

I worked at CVR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The location is fantastic great shops and lunch spots, that's about it. There are still some employees that either truly care about the company or the employees they work with.

    Cons

Benefits are absolutely awful. Bottom line is all that matters to the owners/execs, which is fine but don't expect employees to stay. HR is a nightmare and a revolving door, nothing ever gets done.

    Advice to Management

You need something more than location to keep your employees.

I worked at CVR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lot of good drivers, great place to work if you're a driver.

    Cons

Management is horrible, hr dept is horrible. Management is under qualified and hires "buddies" that are incompetent. Pay is way below industry standard. I worked as a trucking supervisor for 1 year at the paulsvalley location I had to use my personal vehicle for work. Management was too busy golfing to actually work. Way too much drama in the office. Work 24/7.

    Advice to Management

Hire competent employees and leave your buddies out if it

I worked at CVR full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Location has lots of restaurants and shopping. Target bonus paid out. LTIP cash settled over 3 year vesting period. Fun annual Holiday party. Free sodas and snacks.

    Cons

A-candidates will soon find themselves unhappy at CVR. No freedom to make decisions, not even those pertaining to your team, department or function. Lack of leadership from executive management. C-level execs caused unnecessary chaos and demonstrated immature/petty behavior. Toxic environment. Witnessed potentially discriminatory decisions.

Long hours including weekends and holidays. Regular overtime is expected. Healthcare benefits unreasonably expensive with terrible coverage. 401k match takes 3 years to vest.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better

    Pros

Employees at the the refinery facilities are dedicated and friendly.
Users want and need assistance with process improvements

    Cons

Management has little interest in implementing changes identified by business users.
Management sees the use of lean six sigma or agile or process mapping or any other tool as unneeded and unnecessary.
Current, state of the art, project management is a week-by-week chart on the white board.

    Advice to Management

Actually hire and support project management professionals with knowledgeable management
