    Advice to Management

Think about what motivates employees to learn and grow. Keep employees up to date on the status of the merger with Bass Pro. Make the Cabela's family member proud and live up to their family values. This could be a great place to work--it used to be much better. Some of the stores seem to have happier employees.

    I worked at Cabela's part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Hourly employees some of the nicest people I've ever worked with.

    Cons

Crummy pay, lousy discount. Never knowing when you come to work if you'll have a job or which of your colleagues will be gone.

    Advice to Management

Sell to Bass-Pro maybe they can save this company after you screwed it up so badly. Much vaunted core values no longer seem to exist!

    I have been working at Cabela's part-time

    Pros

The employee discount is the only good thing about this company.

    Cons

Poor management, from top to bottom. You are just a number, not a real person.

    Pros

I use to love this job but not so much now

    Cons

Management doesn't care about the outfitters. But if it wasn't for us, they wouldn't have a company.

    Advice to Management

Quality employees not quantity of employees. Respect the outfitters that have been there for 5 yrs or more.

    Pros

Discounts, yeah that is really about it

    Cons

Management, Constant Sexual Harassment, supervisors sleeping with employees

    Advice to Management

Don't hire dirt bag managers and be serious when someone comes to you with harassment allegations, fire them, don't just move them to another store so they can do it to other people. SICK

    Pros

discount (isn't bad), coworkers, product research

    Cons

Management cares more about the bottom line than the quality of there workers, so they end up eliminating or discouraging the seasoned outfitters from staying leaving behind people that know nothing about anything. Little to no growth opportunities. They stopped giving incentives about 2 years ago

    Advice to Management

Offer incentives and growth opportunities, stop working your good employees into the ground.

    I worked at Cabela's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It pays the bills, and that's about all I can say for it. Plenty of overtime because management doesn't know what they are doing.

    Cons

Long unappreciated hours, management is clueless, not enough people to handle the workload. Running the business into the ground. Family doesn't matter to this company.

    Advice to Management

Hire management based off of intelligence and not friendship.

    Pros

Absolutely none. Worst company to ever work for. All they do is lie.

    Cons

Worst company to ever work for. The management are all a bunch of liars, the store manager is a joke and really needs to get over himself. All he does is lie right thru his teeth. The way they made this company out in the beginning is not what it is all about now. If they don't realize that tons of people are quitting even managers are quitting then they are blind. Obviously corporate is blind too. Corporate needs to make an unannounced visit and ask around and take a good look at management.

    Advice to Management

Treat people with respect and stop lying.

    I worked at Cabela's part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Loved talking to the customers, and working with most of my fellow employees. The discount was good, when you reached the maximum of years to get it, otherwise not worth it.

    Cons

All of the new rules basically set you up to fail. There was favoritism among most of the supervisors and some of the employees, so laziness was a big factor. When you needed time off, you had to use your vacation, or it probably wouldn't be approved. It didn't matter if it was for medical reasons. If you are tardy by one minute, you were written up. No excuses. The pay scale between new hires, and the people that have been there for years is terrible. New hires do far less, yet there is maybe $1.00 difference. The people who have been there longer, do more, and are paid less. The shift bid situation is a joke. Combining the different departments was idiotic at best, and then giving Customer Service 1/2 hour training. REALLY? Creating the Call Center in Florida was not right, and did not help the centers here, like they said it would. It created more work for everyone, and made customers angry. The idiots that formed it, just patted themselves on the back, created an award for themselves, nominated each other, and then made us look at it. How stupid was that?
I believe they are looking to close this call center, and any excuse will do to fire someone is okay to use.

    Advice to Management

I think they should fire the key person who enacted the "new" scheduling , and do a major overhaul of the entire system he messed up, since he lied to everyone, hid behind fellow employees, and takes no responsibility for this mess. Plus people quit in droves after he did this. There should be a major evaluation of most of the supervisors in the call centers, and they should have to follow certain rules as well. Maybe have surprise visits on the weekends, since they seem to be slackers, when no one is around. A certain CCA, should be replaced, due to her inexperience, and replaced with one that is properly trained. Her Supervisor should be trained better as well. The HR is extremely rude, and talks down to everyone. Maybe these people should spend time on the phones to remind them how difficult the work really can be at times.
Opening so many stores in such a short time was extremely dumb. It was filled with "bodies", as the customers have told us, so the business doesn't do well. Maybe the next owners will see this and get rid of the idiots, and find someone that isn't going to run it into the ground.
