    Pros

    Many wonderful, unappreciated people working there.

    Cons

    Cabela's does not care about your product knowledge or experience. They don't provide any real product training; they just tell you to "read the information on the box. " They don't care about how much you help customers or what products you sell; they don't track any of that. The only thing they do track is how many people you convince to apply for the cabelas club credit card. That's all they care about. That's all they talk about. They will pipe in reminders to get more credit card applications into your earpiece at least 20 times per day. This includes hourly announcements of how many credit card referrals we've gotten, shoutouts to outfitters who have gotten credit card referrals, and announcements of the latest games and prizes you can win for getting credit card referrals. Yes, that's really all Cabela's cares about these days.

    Advice to Management

    When customers are ready to punch out your employees because they've been harassed about signing up for the credit card half a dozen times while trying to shop, that should be a wake-up call.

    I worked at Cabela's part-time

    Pros

    Great employee discount, if you can afford to take advantage of it. My work schedule fit with my school schedule.

    Cons

    For a "family oriented" company they didn't care much about seeing that their employees could afford to have a family. Starting wage was cents above minimum wage, which is ridiculous considering some of the expertise some of the outfitters bring. They sell their employee discount as a benefit but if you can't afford it because of what they pay you, what's the point? Schedule fluctuates greatly from week to week.

    Advice to Management

    Don't have much advice to the store management, they had to work with what corporate gave them. I had a great store manager that felt his hands were tied. He often came in on his off time to work with us in the warehouse because he knew the workload that was passed down was ridiculous. Department managers, you guys do a great job, but try, if you can, to make the plight of your employees known to the higher ups.

    Some very nice people work there.

    Cons

    Everything.
    The atmosphere is horrible.
    The benefits are horrible.
    The management from the GM upwards is horrible.

    They don't even deserve 1 star

    Advice to Management

    Shut the store.

    Discount was great the longer you stayed

    Even after 9 years of advancing up, boss lied right to my face and didn't have the ba!!s to be honest about it. Happier then ever to be gone.

    Pros

    Meet some wonderful customers & some of the management team do want the store to be successful. Half the managers don’t have a clue what they are doing.

    Cons

    This store is a joke! It’s all about who you know & what you can do for them to get anywhere. They hire incompetent people & don’t train them properly. So short staffed that most departments are single coverage & not able to help customers & complete the tasks management gives them. Most managers spend their time hanging out in the office chatting instead of on the floor helping.

    Advice to Management

    GM & SR Managers pay attention to what’s going on around you. If managers are failing get rid of them don’t give them chance after chance.

    Pros

    Customers are a pleasure to deal with and it’s fun to hear their stories . Sometimes the discounts are nice. Cow workers generally get along . Some decent benefits.

    Cons

    Managers are clingy. Mismanagement of basically everything. Expect full time to do management work for them. No home and work balance.

    Advice to Management

    Start caring more about the people who put in effort instead of trying to get them fired for own agendas. Hold people accountable and schedule correctly.

    Pros

    Employee discount is ok. You have to work there 7 years to get the best discount. It's a job to train and get a better paying job somewhere else

    Cons

    Incompetent management. From the top down to the leads. Ineffective use of labor. Discrimination based on sex. If you have breast you have it made. Lots of but kissing going on. Wages are poor and raises are even worse.

    Advice to Management

    Your leads suck replace them. Quit hiring disgraced cops that have been fired for unethical behavior and making them supervisors.
