    I have been working at Cabela's part-time

    Pros

Very good store manager, caring, committed to 100% customer satisfaction. Always positive and upbeat. Feels like an employee/employee relationship when speaking to him rather than Employer/employee. Salary is typical for big box retailers, but you have the ability to supplement it by promoting their credit card and doing in store online sales of merchandise for customers. Definitely a destination store with customers coming from long distances just to soak up the Cabela's experience. Staff is mostly friendly and supportive. Management is always open to hear constructive feedback. Part timers are able to provide times and days of availability, which are mostly respected.

    Cons

Hours are unpredictable, typical of big box retail. working til 10 at night then coming in at 9 the next morning. Recent cuts in hours have gone from 28 to 32 part time to 8 hours this week, creating big staff shortages and turnover. CUSTOMERS SUFFER and sales that might have been had are lost by people walking out the door because they can not get waited on, especially in the gun department. Trying to save money by cutting hours and losing sales does not seem to be a very good strategy especially when you have a brand with such a sterling reputation as Cabela's

    Advice to Management

The sales that you are losing because of under staffing and customer dissatisfaction with their long wait times ( typically up to 45 minutes at the gun counter) just to get service would be more than made up for by properly staffing the store. You are driving repeat sales and most importantly customer retention away because of this misguided policy. Would you like to drive 120 miles just to go to a store because you heard how great it was to shop there, only to be disappointed by not being able to get waited on in a reasonable time?? Is this a recipe for corporate growth?

    I have been working at Cabela's full-time

    Pros

Access to the latest & greatest outdoor gear. Always a learning curve when it comes to those products even from as little as 3 years ago which makes it fun.
Discounts on certain products, you get to talk about hunting/fishing all day w/ customers & coworkers.

    Cons

Erratic retail hours, no time off during the holidays, typical office politics.

    Advice to Management

I hope they get back to the core values, back before they became a publicly traded company.
Hopefully with the merger there can be some fresh eyes to see that sometimes to go forward, you need to take a step back and evaluate how you got there, & who got you there, and not throw out talented people bec/ they don't do office politics.
Hard work does speak for itself, not just talk.
