    Pros

It's on long island - no commuting to city. Very good benefits. They have a basic level of employee respect and they dont expect long hours just to prove you are working.

    Cons

You're either an insider or an outsider.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time allowing the right people to do their jobs. Set a direction and let the team go.

    Pros

Reporters at News12 generally are not on a contract. Where else can you be on-air in TV without a contract?

However, onces you become full-time or part-time staff, the benefits are good and include huge discounts on cable TV and internet service if you live within the Cablevision footprint.

Cablevision also offers its employees a generous health package.

    Cons

The pay for news staff is not on par with NY/ NJ/ CT costs of living.

You are forced to do more individually because the company does not adaquately staff its news bureaus.

    Advice to Management

To continue employee-friendly initiatives like ice-cream fridays during the summer.

To devise better work-life balance progams.

To invest in more full-time staff for News Bureaus.

    Pros

Pay, Benefits, Co-workers, management, and environment.

    Cons

Poor work evaluation system, no room for growth if you don't follow their guidelines and troubleshooting steps even though you end up being right, no ears for front line customer support, messed up sales teams.
Policy policy policy. Even if we messed it up, we wont' fix it without going through policy first. They say to us, "Don't crush the customer with the rulebook" and when we dont, we get scored negatively. When we do, they leave for someone else even if it's our fault because we won't bend a little to undo what we did. You can't go "Yeah, this was completely our fault, we'll take care of you." you end up hearing "YOU ARE THE NINTH PERSON I'VE SPOKEN TO, THAT WAS WHAT THE LAST BILLION PEOPLE TOLD ME AND I'VE ALREADY BEEN TO EVERY DEPARTMENT ON THE PLANET" basically for every pissed off call you get. You can't be honest in this job. If you have a heart, go somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your competent front line reps who can analyze trends in service to make the company better.

    Pros

Cablevision is a company with a wide range of products, and ever-expanding opportunities to grow businesses. I found most of my co-workers to be smart, talented, committed professionals, which made for an exciting work environment.

    Cons

While Cablevision's programming arm, Rainbow Media, is based in New York City, the company is based on Long Island, and a lot of their systems and standards are based on the company's origins as a suburban cable service. The salary structure, for instance, is not regionalized and compensation does not keep pace with New York industry standards. Likewise, some of the internal processes were not designed to support many of the businesses and personnel that the company now engages in.

    Pros

The starting pay is ok for this area and the required skills.
The path to progression is very open and transparent - getting there is another issue.
The benefits are pretty good for a call center job

    Cons

There can be a conflict in work scheduling for those of us who have families.
Very easy to get written up for attendance because of emegencies that normal families have.
Very easy to get burned out from the constant pressure to meet "stats" without any seeming benefits for the business needs or the customer.
    High turnover.

    Advice to Management

It would be good if management could offer more flexibility in work schedules - even look at the possiblity of some working from home.
Comcast is doing it for some of their Customer reps.

    Pros

Great Benefits. Other employees are great. You will make a lot of friends. Overtime is almost always available, if not extra days then by staying late.

    Cons

Workload is too heavy. The pools are almost always open. Some customers can be rude. You are expected to stay late everynight because the workload is so heavy.

    Advice to Management

Close the pools once in a while. Verizon and Time Warner does the same work as us but make double the money.
