I worked at Cablevision Systems full-time

    Pros

Benefits are very good: dental, vision, and medical. The pay is decent for someone who just came out of college, and you get a raise every year.

    Cons

Always on the phones talking to customers about their bills or troubleshooting. You do not get breaks in between each call, there's ALWAYS another customer in the queue, which can be stressful! only time you get a break is during your breaks. There's a 10 question quiz every month on products and services. If you're a new employee your schedule is going to be nights and weekends from 3 to 11pm, only way your schedule can change is 6 mos to a year in when there's a "shift change" but you're more likely to get a good schedule if you have good ratings as a rep.

new company,Altice, making many changes. Using more contractors, decreasing benefits,
used to be emphasis on in=house technicians, now much more contractors, many long term, experienced techs have been "bought out". Company has very ambitious 5 year plan, but could be a rough ride for employees

I worked at Cablevision Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There appeared to be still a family type environment when I came in to the company. Charles Dolan was a good man. When Jimmy took the role as CEO and President things changed a bit, more massive layoffs, but still had that friendly type environment.
Education to further your career path was available, but in spurts and you needed to jump through hoops to get it, at least in the department I worked in. Most people were friendly. Always had work to do and was always busy.

    Cons

Too many Vice Presidents! Too many inexperienced people being promoted into positions that they weren't competent of holding. Years ago it used to be a great company to work for, but you could always count on a massive corporate wide layoff about every 3 years or so, very unsettling. After surviving a few massive layoffs, I asked management on what the criteria was for losing your job in the next round and I was told "what do you think?" I then found that it was not merely a performance based release, but it was left to the discretion of management to decide who stays and who gets removed. I saw a lot of good people get let go for ridiculous reasons unrelated to performance or attendance.
Try to rise up and work your way up within the company is a real clique game. Even so, very difficult to move up or even into another position or department.
Could just be department specific, but in my experience for nearly a decade of dedication, incentives were given by management and were seldom delivered if at all.

    Advice to Management

When those who are put in positions in which they do not belong weakness begins to spread rapidly from that person(s) on. Certain people don't have the proper people skills to hold a position of managing others. Knowledge to perform tasks can be learned, but personality traits are hard pressed to change.
Hopefully the new owners with Altice will clean house and get rid all the overpaid dead wood and those that have been leaching in management and above. Perhaps with all the savings in house by doing so will lower the cost of having their services considerably.
