I worked at Cafe Deluxe (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pretty good location, close to Foggy Bottom Metro in DC. The clientele were a good mix of local professionals and international tourists. Most were perfectly pleasant and polite. Management was pretty good in allowing flexibility for hours and taking your requests into consideration. More hours and promotion opportunities were available for those who worked hard and proved their merit.

    Cons

Like anywhere in the restaurant industry, closing time can become unpredictable and the work can wear you down. Likewise, management could be disorganized at times, but that's just due to the amount on their plate.

    Advice to Management

Keep recognizing those who show up and do their work with no excuses and reward them accordingly. Communicate better among managers to stay on the same page with employee training.

    Pros

Its a job if you have no other at the moment something is better than nothing its hard to failat this place.

    Cons

The whole place is the worst restaurant to work for from the top down. If its your first serving job it will give you the worst habits and don't expect this job to do anything positive for your career in food bev and hospitality it is a complete void idk how they even are in business..maybe they're cheap menu which means you will have the worst diners..even in Tysons ..mucho trabajo poko denero..and lots of frustration is what is instore for you.

    Advice to Management

Learn your Job.you are not a" boss "you are management. And your terrible

    Pros

    Money is steady but average.

    Cons

Management plays favourites and does not communicate well with their employees. They tolerate gossip and even feed into it. Not at all professional.

    Advice to Management

Learn to treat everyone equally and communicate with all employees.

I worked at Cafe Deluxe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work during school or other career endeavor - many people had other jobs or education paths they were focussed on and most managers were accommodating with schedules.

    Cons

Like much of the restaurant industry, feeling appreciated or valued rarely occurred.

    Advice to Management

Show appreciation to those that are working hard and honestly for the business in meaningful ways so that good behavior continues.

I worked at Cafe Deluxe part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

For a first-time job (I've worked 4 since/during) the pay is decent. The shifts aren't necessarily difficult, and a possible pro is that they are fairly short.
Hosts got $10 off meals during shifts. Servers $5. It may have changed.

    Cons

    The list is rather large.
-Host(ess) hours are minimal. They are lucky to have 20 hours per week.
-Server hours are long and tedious, and often run into overtime (which does not grant higher pay because your checks are taken for taxes).
-Bussers are mostly incompetent and supremely lazy. Of the four, two work (one being assigned solely to mornings alone) and two others do not. Of the three assigned to nights, only one does anything dealing with front-of-house maintenance. Servers and hosts are expected to bus all tables and run all food because there is nobody else helping.
-Patio table spacing makes it difficult for anyone to do their jobs because there is no room. This also leads to guest complaints.
-Guests are often horribly rude. They will move tables without consulting workers, relocate themselves (again without consulting workers), criticize you for things outside of your control, and generally show open disdain.
---Management is a pain. Their focus is 100% on the guest, with no regard for workers. There is often behind-the-back criticism of servers and hosts with no attempt to remedy the issue (it's left up to coworkers to try and correct them).
-The kitchen is extremely small for a restaurant of its size. This leads to a crashing kitchen most weekends, leading to disgruntled customers.
