I worked at Cal State East Bay part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    There are no pros yet.

    Cons

We spend all that money for an MA in English at Cal State yet we can't get hired as an English teacher at Cal State or anywhere. Cal State East Bay keeps saying we don't have any classes for you or we only give preference to three year teachers or GTAS. We only hire ones who are already working for us. We don't hire NEW teachers. I guess those who were GTAs and former teachers at CSU before they cut our classes that we were teaching count as new teachers. Have been unemployed for a while. We spend all that money for a degree at CSU yet got nowhere with it. If you don't want to hire anymore teachers in the English department, stop offering the MA in English, TESOL, etc. Stop offering it. You guys are taking our money and yet won' help us out after we graduate. They care about you when you are a student. When you graduate, they don't know you anymore. Also, can't get hired anywhere as an English teacher. No one cares about English anymore nor about even hiring English teachers. The English department takes your money. Also you have one teacher teaching 6 classes. Why do they get to teach so many while the rest of get 0? Oh and GTAS get $500 something per month and English teachers get $700 something per month yet us students pay more than $3000 per semester to take English classes as a grad student. Useless. Spend all that money and get nowhere with their degree.

I have been working at Cal State East Bay full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

-great management team at Continuing Ed -encourages professional development (taking classes, attending conferences) -good work-life balance -fee waiver for degrees and classes at any of the 23 CSU campuses. dependents can use fee waiver too (only pay 40% tution)

    Cons

-LOW PAY -can clearly see other coworkers are slackers, not have much to do. but senior management / their supervisor doesn't do anything. and unlike the private sector, cannot just fire someone (we are all unionized).
