I have been working at Cal State East Bay

    Pros

Good teaching experience that can translate to other professions. For example, my teaching experience will help me if I want to go into quality assurance, sales, consulting, management, etc. Another "pro" is that it pays pretty well for the amount of work you do --> at the Hayward campus that is. If you teach at the Concord campus, you will do MUCH MORE work and not get paid to do it.

    Cons

There are definitely more cons than pros. 1) the teachers have egos and still make you call them Dr. blah blah blah. At UC's, they tell you to call them by their first name. 2) the other TAs ALSO have big egos. They don't want to help you if you don't know what to do, they act clicky, and some of them have been there longer than 5 years. As a grad student, you are only allowed to be there technically for 5 years... They act like big shots 3) the curriculum and grading is dumbed down. A lot of the students are pre-nursing and you scratch your head, are these going to be our future nurses?? 4) the students are lackluster, i.e., they do not try!! Only like 2-3 students work their butts off to get A's. But then due to the easier grading policy (unofficial), the students who get D's end up getting B's. Kind of sad. 5) Why do politics exist here? Students and teachers are in education. Not politics. Get off your high horse.
