      Pros

Under the right management, this place is a great place to work. The system is put in place so that there is no abuse of power. There are a ton of checks and balances.

      Cons

Under the wrong management, this place can be horrible to work at. There are plenty of union violations and retaliation if you speak up.

      Unsure about graduation

      Pros

The staff treats me as if I am a genuine employee. The staff is well educated hard working and competent regarding it's task at hand. The work environment is top notch. A great place for me to learn and become a well rounded employee. The supervisors are gracious and ask for feedback.

      Cons

I am not sure I will be asked to stay on board after graduation.

      Great work environment

      Pros

Many of opportunities and departments within one state institution. Once you get your foot in the door it is a great place to stay and work, also with good health benefits

      Cons

The wait time for the parking garage like a year and a half. Occasionally, you run into someone that has the attitude of "we have always done it way" mentality.

      Pros

Investment office is filled with smart investment professionals to learn from and network with. Access to professional investment tools and platforms. Great place to get your foot in the door in the investment industry.

      Cons

Pay at the junior levels is sub-par, and promotional opportunities are more tenure and luck-based (right time, right place) than merit-based. Not much effort to retain or groom junior staff. Overall a very overstaffed and bloated structure due to being a state agency.

      Pros

Great place to work. Smart, diligent, hard-working people. Onsite gym, cafeteria, and close to many downtown attractions. Fun work events and plenty of inhouse training.

      Cons

Some managers don't really deserve to be in management, and despite official recognition programs, if you have a manager that's too cluttered or lazy to acknowledge staff, it doesn't matter. Promotions are hard to come by on small teams.

Great Place to work but not a lot of room for promotions

      Pros

CalPERS is a great place to work. I have pretty good co-workers and the work itself is not too difficult.

      Cons

You really need to move to Sacramento, CA if you want to move up. In this office there are only promotions when someone in a higher position retires or moves offices.
