    Pros

Penny stock by the end of the year?

    Cons

Steady decline in stock price points to poor leadership, both old and new. Don't expect that bonus target to come true if you are foolish enough to join.

    Advice to Management

Stop having the marketing team write fake Glassdoor reviews

    Pros

Great location, free lunch, very clean and organized building. Employees are friendly and helpful. Couldn't have asked for a better transition out of college into the working world.

    Cons

As an IT professional at the company, I cannot think of any major downsides to working at Calamos. Typical IT related annoyances occur but that goes for any business.

    Pros

Great hands-off manager who understands how his team works (invaluable), good work/life balance, campus discounts, free lunches, profit sharing, bonus program, location, training/tuition reimbursement

    Cons

Has been difficult to secure decisions from senior management in the past, but has gotten much better lately......As with most places, there are some office politics to deal with, but it has not been a problem for me personally, so it's just something to keep in mind

    Pros

Free lunch and covered parking. Easy commute.

    Cons

Management there loves their yes men and I mean it when I say men. Don't expect any respect or credit for your work if you are female, unless you complement the men and stroke their egos. Too many people are kept in senior roles because of their ability to talk themselves up and suck up to management. The real workers who are getting things done get no credit. Its all about putting on a good show here. Performance and AUM have been on a downhill slide for years because of this approach.

    Advice to Management

Clean house of all the deadbeats, get some real analysts.

    Pros

Free lunches, beautiful office space, great benefits, easy work/life balance, no one works too hard

    Cons

This is not your typical buy side firm.

There is little fundamental research or investment culture here -- there are few company meetings, the analysts don't build detailed earnings models, investment debates tend to be focused on capital allocation and governance rather than market share, pricing, margins, and other fundamentals. Importantly, the analysts and pms tend to rely on the firm's proprietary timing tools developed 20 years ago by the CEOs nephew, with primary inputs like earnings surprise, earnings momentum, and price momentum. Following a period of bad performance from 2010-2012, a new CIO was brought in to beef up the investment team and research process. He hired about 25 analysts from good firms with strong research skills. Performance improved sharply in 2013 and 2014!, and flows which had been negative for years turned positive in 2015.

But the two different cultures clashed and the old guard complained about being asked to travel to meet companies, forecast earnings, and base valuations on multiples and DCFs. They complained that the new analysts made more than the old analysts and the CIO and most of the new hires left in 2015 given the culture clash.. The CEO took over management of the investment team in addition to everything else. Not surprisingly, investment performance went south, flows turned back negative, and morale tanked.

    Advice to Management

The CEO should step aside and take on a chairman's role. He should bring in a new CIO to run the investment team and someone else to run the firm, cut costs, and focus on sales and marketing. I seriously doubt any of this will happen as the CEO still runs this like a family business and trusts no one but his two children who both work there, but who don't have the work ethic or business sense to run the firm.

    Pros

Great work environment, free lunch, great benefits, nice office space. Smart, hard-working employees.

    Cons

Everyone is scared of John Calamos. He did not trust anyone to go a good job and would regularly chastise employees in meetings. You knew not to challenge Mr. Calamos.
