    Pros

    The company culture at Caleres is like no other. The people are extremely friendly, everyone has a smile on their face and willing to help others out. People are respected and their decisions are taken seriously at all levels. The life-work balance is also greatly appreciated, while there are times I need to work late, other times I need to get out early, so you aren't nickled and dimed on the time you work. They also take seriously your career goals and aspiration for rising to the next level, without holding you back. I always recommend to my friends to look for opportunities at the corporate office.

    Cons

    You will work hard, but are rewarded for doing so.

    Pros

    Caleres is an inviting place to work with a great company culture. It's also exciting to work for a company that is such a force to be reckoned with in the footwear industry. I feel proud when I tell people that I work here!

    Cons

    Compensation could be improved upon, but Caleres does work hard to ensure that everyone receives a fair pay that is reviewed annually or more.

    Pros

    Strong CEO who is passionate and focused on moving company forward. Financially sound. Leader in the industry. Engaged associates who care about what they do. Not overly structured or a lot of polices.

    Cons

    Work environment flexibility varies by department and leader. Benefits are good but slow to keep up with what others companies offer. Need more diversity - especially in management roles. Limited development opportunities.

    Pros

    It’s a great place to work if you’re an inside the box thinker who likes to follow orders, and doesn’t like to shake the boat.

    The show sale is great!

    Cons

    Obviously this depends dramatically by department, but in my experience managers did nothing to actively empower employees to make decisions. Training was basically non-existent, and innovation appeared to be stagnant.

    Corporate bullying is pervasive in this environment, and people are constantly tearing each other down or making fun of their employees on Slack. This leaves no room for error- growth or outside the box thinking. I order to empower people to do their best work they must be permitted to make an occasional mistake. Group think is a large issue within the organization.

    At one point, my manager “accidentally” pulled up a conversation when she was showing me something on her computer. She appeared to be the instigator and the conversation included multiple people in my department. She kindly left the conversation up for long enough to make sure I could read all of the biting comments making fun of my appearance, manner of speaking and use of vocabulary.

    Advice to Management

    Focus more on empowering people from all rings of the ladder. Strive to be more innovative. Place more of an emphasis on diversity when hiring.

    Pros

    Never a dull day, always something going on with a new challenge or system to be learned. Managers are always encouraging and eager for you to succeed, and become the best version of yourself!

    Cons

    We won't be getting as many holiday days off.

    Awesome team, industry, opportunities, culture, fringe and more! The company is very welcoming, leaders in the company recognize employees for a job well done. If you're a shining star who wants to be recognized, work hard and you'll do well here.

    Cons

    not for people who want to do the bare minimum. We work hard here, if that's not you - don't bother.

    Advice to Management

    keep up the great work, I love the smart calculated risks, and what you do to make sure employees feel valued and stay with the company as long as they do. I'm so proud to work for a growing St. Louis company at a time when many are getting bought out or sold.
