I have been working at Caleres full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The company culture at Caleres is like no other. The people are extremely friendly, everyone has a smile on their face and willing to help others out. People are respected and their decisions are taken seriously at all levels. The life-work balance is also greatly appreciated, while there are times I need to work late, other times I need to get out early, so you aren't nickled and dimed on the time you work. They...

I have been working at Caleres full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Awesome team, industry, opportunities, culture, fringe and more! The company is very welcoming, leaders in the company recognize employees for a job well done. If you're a shining star who wants to be recognized, work hard and you'll do well here.

    Cons

not for people who want to do the bare minimum. We work hard here, if that's not you - don't bother.

    Advice to Management

keep up the great work, I love the smart calculated risks, and what you do to make sure employees feel valued and stay with the company as long as they do. I'm so proud to work for a growing St. Louis company at a time when many are getting bought out or sold.

    Pros

The people that you work with are amazing individuals. Footwear is always interesting and always changing.

    Cons

Very low employee moral, Yearly layoffs to make numbers look good, Downgrade jobs as soon as they come open to save money, No upward movement available, Tons of HR people but no idea what they do, Health insurance is so expensive, probably cheaper to get it on your own.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in your people. Period.

I worked at Caleres full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Work and life balance was an accepted concept

    Cons

Disconnected teams. Human Resource for benefit or talent questions completely unavailable

    Advice to Management

Keeping team members in loop of projects and company directions. Need human beings to to return emails and phone calls from Human Resource department. I made a simple request to HR 2 weeks before I left the company, reached out by email 2 times and phone 2 times (left messages twice), spoke with someone on 4th contact attempt. It was very apparent on a brief phone call there is severe disconnect between HR talent,...

I worked at Caleres full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

You get to work with some amazing people within your department but everyone is feeling the pressure of constant cuts to staff and then expected to pick up the slack.

    Cons

HR cannot be trusted and Upper Management does nothing to change the toxic environment.

    Advice to Management

Listen to those people who have left or expressed concerns about the state of things. And stop asking their employees to write Glassdoor reviews that only help the company ratings go up.

I have been working at Caleres full-time

    Pros

    - Caleres is full of strong talent – people who are passionate about their jobs and friendly/collaborative to work with. - Work/life balance in my department is pretty good (although it varies greatly depending on your area). - Even though retail is struggling, the business is healthy. There is a clear vision of where the organization is headed, and leadership communicates with associates. - Senior leadership is friendly...

    Cons

    - There is NO professional development, even for new managers. This leads to poor leadership, limited growth opportunities and high turnover. It’s a great company for entry-level employees; you’ll learn a lot and very quickly. However, if you have more than 5 years of experience, think carefully before joining. If you do, get as much as you can when starting. Chances are you’ll stay in the same position for 5+ years....

    Advice to Management

Solicit feedback and listen to your people. There is so much wasted potential that is hindering Caleres’ growth. Revamp your HR department to advocate for your employees and their growth and development. The job market is too good for people to accept sub-par work environments and non-existent opportunities. No wonder the turnover is rising and you’re asking for positive Glassdoor reviews.

    Pros

warehouse shoe sales and discounts on product

    Cons

No management bonus plan, they will defer everyone's annual increases despite C- Level execs taking big bonus', An HR department led by buffoons who are clueless about internal development of employees, VERY poor benefits.

    Advice to Management

Let your managers do their jobs and quit changing your minds every two weeks. Promote from within. Develop talent and allow them to help drive decisions. remember that a truly good leader lets their team eat first. Think about it Diane

I have been working at Caleres full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

You get paid for your work, however only minimal paid increases.

    Cons

It seems from recent events, that Caleres is firing experienced hard working personal once they reach 50 years to relieve them of the higher paid positions , in order to hire younger inexperienced at lessor pay. No 401K contributions for hourly paid. More and more benefits are reduced

    Advice to Management

Think about what you are loosing instead of the money. Diane Sullivan get paid enough.

Strong CEO who is passionate and focused on moving company forward. Financially sound. Leader in the industry. Engaged associates who care about what they do. Not overly structured or a lot of polices.

      Cons

Work environment flexibility varies by department and leader. Benefits are good but slow to keep up with what others companies offer. Need more diversity - especially in management roles. Limited development opportunities.
