I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Outstanding leaders; opportunity to grow your career across multiple businesses within one portfolio company including retail and wholesale; entrepreneurial spirit where creativity and results are recognized and rewarded. Pension plan is a fabulous benefit. Stable company that's been around for a very long time.

    Cons

If you are not ready to take accountability for your work and results, and you are not interested in growing and changing a modern business climate, you will probably not enjoy working here.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing us to win in the market. Can't wait to see what's next for Caleres!

    Pros

    Employee discount
    Great team
    Flexibility
    Commission on sales
    Selling contests (health competition)

    Cons

None to speak of for the moment.

I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Flexible Scheduling
-Major Holidays off like Christmas, Thanksgiving day. (subject to change for different circumstances or locations)
    -Discount on Products
-Easy coaching and strategies to learn duties.
-Amazing teams and people to work with***

    *** = subjective to emolyee

    Cons

-Minimal hours for part time associates
-Very low staffed days and staff volume (managers can work by themselves for majority of day)

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more hours for stores so there can always be at least 2 people available in the store at all times during business hours. (this better allows for breaks to be taken properly, enhance LP, and customer service)

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

This company still has a pension program and offers a full range of benefits. Lots of good people through out the organization.

    Cons

Still a company where it matters who you know to get ahead. Seems to value experience from outside the company over internal candidates at the mid and higher levels. The sales compensation does not compensate high performers well. Also, the company had a bad habit of upper management making decisions without knowing how it effected low and mid-level workers. Nor did they understand the processes they were effecting. In the last few years they were also moving away from a customer focused approach and towards a cold calculated data driven model. Not that data was bad but customer service really seemed to be negatively affected.

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule, loved the people, liked the energy flow from within our sales team.

    Cons

You'll get very frustrated in your employment with Famous Footwear as an assistant manager since upper management has unrealistic payroll hours available to do tasks that required +25% more of that payroll. You'll fall behind on routine tasks with unrealistic expectations and basically not enough help.

    Advice to Management

We could have done much better if upper management would have been more interested in hearing us out, more direct involvement in daily store operations needs to be implemented.

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -discount
-tons of shoes from sample sales
    -great learning experience

I worked at Sam Edelman for 2 years and we got great discounts on shoes and there were always sample sales. I learned a lot from my experience there, but there were definitely room for improvements.

    Cons

    -no work/life balance
    -pay wasn’t great
    -cattiness in the office

There was no real HR, when you start there is no on-boarding process, and if you are not there at 8:30 and don’t stay super late I feel like you are looked at weird.

    Pros

Store level management great to work with.

    Cons

Store managers get pushed around by their boss. Hired as full time and get not getting even part time hours.

    Advice to Management

Check if the corporate level managers are worth the pay. See if the employees can make their living with 20 hours as full time.
