I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company culture at Caleres is like no other. The people are extremely friendly, everyone has a smile on their face and willing to help others out. People are respected and their decisions are taken seriously at all levels. The life-work balance is also greatly appreciated, while there are times I need to work late, other times I need to get out early, so you aren't nickled and dimed on the time you work. They also take seriously your career goals and aspiration for rising to the next level, without holding you back. I always recommend to my friends to look for opportunities at the corporate office.

    Cons

You will work hard, but are rewarded for doing so.

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, you get as much help from corporate that you could possibly need. All you have to do is ask.

    Cons

As in any retail business, not enough payroll.

    Advice to Management

Be a little more receptive to the associates working in the trenches. They’re the ones putting the money in the registers.

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

My boss was the best. I knew the expectations clearly and worked hard & was appreciated nicely by flex time & generous raises. Great benefits.

    Cons

Unfortunately I was there at a time when the business was changing over and this company was becoming the typical corporation. Leaders made great bonuses and associates don’t. I gave compensation a five stars because I had a great boss. Anyone else in this company would probably give a very different rating.

    Advice to Management

Compensate associated fairly. Appreciate your long term employees, rather than find ways to throw them into a RIF. Or throw them under the bus to impress new management.

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Meet some great people. opportunity to learn new departments. holidays off.

    Cons

Full time schdeule not guaranteed schedule based on demand lack of communication about schedule from management day to day basis.non existesitent HR on site at tejon DC.payroll often made mistakes that employees had to keep track of.restructuring with management especially general manager lowered staff morale with higher productivity and stagnant pay.overall decrease in associate engagement due to significant changes within the work envirment within the past year.

    Advice to Management

Grow your employees recognize the talent within your DC recognize them other ways besides a Tshirt. Treat your employees like the driving force they are instead of just pieces of a puzzle and hear them out when they have issues many times open door policy was mentioned but was truly never open when it came down to it just a short answer and my way or the highway attitude.Fully vet supervisors before hiring many times it was left to the experienced employees picking up the slack of the inexperienced supervisor to get the job done.

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I worked with at my store. As a store manager, I was able to hire and develop my own team.

    Cons

The company continues to cut payroll hours, which makes it very difficult to get all of our work done.

    Advice to Management

Stop investing in buying other companies and constantly cutting payroll in your real money maker.

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It was once a great company.

    Cons

You are no longer a person, just a number. Senior Executives only care about themselves and not growing talent. The focus is on making the market think they are a profitable company but that is in no way true. People are constantly laid off to save money so there is no job security. Horrible SVP/GM’s are kept around when others that care about their team are let go. I can see this company being sold within the next couple of years.

P.S. employees were told to go on this site and write good reviews because of all the negative reviews they received.

    Advice to Management

Start believing in your employees again and don’t beat them down to the point when they walk out the door.
