I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Flexible Scheduling
-Major Holidays off like Christmas, Thanksgiving day. (subject to change for different circumstances or locations)
    -Discount on Products
-Easy coaching and strategies to learn duties.
-Amazing teams and people to work with***

    *** = subjective to emolyee

    Cons

-Minimal hours for part time associates
-Very low staffed days and staff volume (managers can work by themselves for majority of day)

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more hours for stores so there can always be at least 2 people available in the store at all times during business hours. (this better allows for breaks to be taken properly, enhance LP, and customer service)

I have been working at Caleres full-time

    Pros

Never work too late or early. 30 percent discount on shoes. flexibility for work life balance is decent. Coworkers are fun.

    Cons

Sales goals/ the way you are evaluated as an employee is based on ability to get people to sign up for rewards, email, and accessories sold so they're not based off you as a team member. Working weekends (which is a given).

I worked at Caleres full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I worked for Brown Shoe Company (now Caleres *5*) during their transitional rebranding phase.

I was initially brought on through an outside creative placement agency as a temp and worked for the Ryka brand where I was then hired on full time to be a part of the (now retired) Naya team. I then transitioned over to the Bzees brand when they exited Naya from the brand family.

Throughout my time at Caleres, I found the employees to be positive, success focused, and willing to educate and guide new hires through their career development. I joined with almost no fashion design experience and was encouraged to develop my skills internally and put on a trajectory that would have led me to a design career. (I left the company due to external circumstances.)

Many of their teams are comprised of extremely thoughtful, and talented people who are willing to go above and beyond to ensure their products success in the mainstream market. Their passion and dedication to their brands ensure great product design and high quality craftsmanship.

I had excellent mentors and although I had some struggles along the way, I would say overall, I was a valued and respected member of the team, and I was always treated as such.

    Cons

I had many positive experiences at the company, but there could always be room for improvement.

Work/life balance is sometimes a struggle. Depending on the brand and your position you could be working anywhere from a typical 40hr week to upwards of 70hr weeks. I found that I had the shorter end of the spectrum with the exception of our sample/design weeks which could run late and cause stress.

The work culture sometimes feels a bit like "drinking the kool-aid". You are encouraged to live and breathe healthy living, which is excellent, but its sometimes over-exaggerated and pressed heavily.

There had been times during my time at the company where although I was encouraged to share ideas and critique others, we still reverted back to Plan A. Proven sellers will almost always get top priority, which from a business side makes sense, but sometimes your creative brain can feel a bit stifled and dejected after too many rejections. Overall, the name of the game is sales and numbers over inspiration.

    Advice to Management

I had an excellent relationship with management, even when we disagreed and had moments of tension, I still feel like my thoughts and feelings were heard and respected.

Overall, I would say to be open to differences of thought and opinion. Be mindful of the situation that people are coming from. Not everyone is an expert in their field yet and there has to be room for growing pains. The first try is not always going to be the best try.

I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people have hearts of gold and always strive to do what's right, the company values can be seen and felt throughout the organization (not just words on paper), and they offer affordable high quality products to their customers.

    Cons

Slow to change, antiquated inefficient proprietary systems, office politics can sometimes get in the way of good decision making, a bit behind on the compensation front, and limited career path opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Invest in new technology, create efficient processes with end user in mind, and strengthen training and development of middle management into higher roles - great employees don't wait around forever...
