I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Caleres encourages growth by giving you chances to improve in your current job or even transfer into a more advanced role. There are training opportunities and you get to work with some talented employees.
Pay is on par with other companies and benefits are actually better. Pension plan, shoe discount, employee discounts for a number of other offerings, health care etc.
The environment is fairly non-political which means things get done for the betterment of the company.
Good environment overall, the people are friendly and helpful and the company seems to care about it's employees with a number of it's internal programs directed at employee recognition.

    Cons

5 day work week(I joke of course)? I can't really think of a negative to working at Caleres.

    Advice to Management

For the most part, keep doing what you are doing. Management does a fair job and while feedback is a little on the slim side it's nothing all that bad.

    Pros

Culture is fun, flexible, and made up of good people willing to help others. There is a lot of opportunity for growth and development upon proving yourself and showing drive. It's also a company that is dedicated to giving back to the community and allowing employees to participate.

    Cons

Clear communication could be improved, specifically regarding company performance, news, and initiatives, as well as benefit changes. Sometimes unnecessary leaders are involved in decisions unrelated to them, which causes inefficiencies and delayed decision making. Also opportunity to improve some areas of upper management.

    Advice to Management

Seek more ideas and opinions from your employees and listen to what they have to say. Hold employees accountable for the behaviors, not just their performance-- Don't put in place standards if not everyone will be held to those standards.

    Pros

The company is really investing in digital and it's starting to pay off. The company is also investing time and resources into shifting the culture to be focused around employee recognition. The company is investing where it counts and bringing in talent to pull off the shift in culture.

    Cons

Work/life balance gets a little tricky sometimes, but leaders do encourage you to take the time off you need in order to recharge.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in talent, culture, and digital. Show encouragement at all times to the people that are there to keep morale up.

I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have been with the organization just short of a decade and I am grateful for the opportunities I have received to move, both laterally and promotions. Great work/life balance once trust is built up and a very casual dress code (if that is your thing).

    Cons

Like any organization there are frustrating days and people you cannot stand working with, the key to tie yourself to the strong leaders. Pay is barely average even though they claim to pay very well.

    Advice to Management

Avoid the constant reporting structure changes that make it difficult to gain career traction or develop strong relationships with leaders.

    Pros

Great open corporate environment with remarkable, diverse, engaged and motivated people. Supportive upper management with encouraging direction on development opportunities. Excellent balance of work and personal life. How they do business is as important as the business they do. This evident and encouraged through their company values.

    Cons

Difficult to come up with one because while I may not agree with every decision made, I understand its validity for the betterment of the company.

    Advice to Management

Keep moving the company forward, challenging the associates, and celebrating the WINS.

I have been working at Caleres full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Caleres has a rich history in the St. Louis area and in the shoe industry -- with the chance to be involved in supporting the goals to get shoes to consumers from many angles: marketing, IT, sales, wholesale. But it is also a company involved in our community, offering many volunteering opportunities.

    Cons

As we all experience with most companies, the environment is fast-paced, with multiple time sensitive projects demanding attention.

    Advice to Management

Continue the investments being made to support the hard work being done by the employees.
