    Pros

Good work with good variety; enjoyable colleagues; noble industry...purifying water. Facilities are new and create a pleasant working environment. Company spends resources to conduct needed training for employees. Good company commitment regarding employee health and safety.

    Cons

Business is struggling in many areas. Needed cost reductions make employment security feel tenuous at present. Will be a better climate to work in once business conditions improve.

I have been working at Calgon Carbon full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Small facility where you get to know people quickly. Most are friendly and willing to help you learn you job.

    Cons

Throwing darts at problems. Production and R&D do not seem to blend. Corporate has no true sense of operations. Only a few remain in upper management positions that have actually worked in the production plants. Too many MBA's and not enough experienced technical people. R&D department is under staffed.

    Advice to Management

Union has a control here. Violent outbursts/threats by staff are ignored and seen as blowing off steam. Might have been OK 30 years ago but work place violence has become a major problem. Senior management needs to address these issues. Anger management classes and stress reduction needs addressed. Take advantage of local events to promote the business. We sell water treatment systems people. Other companies are using carbons to filter shale brine waters and sending it to us to dispose of. We could sell the carbon too! Forget the margins and sell more. No need to make 35 - 40% mark up. Get rid of poor sales staff and find someone who can sell product. Inventory material so it is available when needed for customers.

    Pros

Dedicated people, great product, and an overall nice place to work. It is nice providing a product that really helps people and communities.

    Cons

Calgon is not a rapidly growing company so at times opportunities for advancement are hard to find. Nonetheless, a great company and generally great people.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to grow the company to continue to engage and retain good employees. Generally stay the course but either grow the business or reduce head count to keep employees challenged and enriched.

I have been working at Calgon Carbon full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

We make a product that cleans contaminated water. I'm proud to be a part of this team. I can't speak for other people, but my manager is great. I feel like we are a little family. The building is modern and nice.

They had a huge carnival for all the families last year. They had prizes and great food. It showed me they care about my family too.

    Cons

I would like to continue my education. Not sure if they would pay for that or not. I haven't asked so I'm not sure.

    Advice to Management

Please promote from within instead of outside the company. I want to move up!
