I have been working at California Dtsc full-time

    Pros

State jobs are known for their security and retirement benefits, but at what cost? Eh. I guess the cafe downstairs is nice.

    Cons

Unfortunately there is much complacency. Not enough work with an excess amount of workers who are largely under-qualified. Upward mobility exists but is limited in that it is based more on connection and seniority rather than skill, which you do not gain much of here. Many seem to have difficulty with professional conduct. Be prepared to meet many characters.

    Advice to Management

    Please practice professionalism.

    "DTSC Student Assistant"

    Neutral Outlook

    Pros

The work is not difficult at all. No actual experience is required.

    Cons

Sometimes there is really nothing to do. Your work is dependent on whether other staff members are willing to offer a little training so you can actually contribute.

    Advice to Management

A little more structure for the job might be good. Otherwise, your sort of left to yourself to figure out what to do, which, admittedly is not terrible either.

I have been working at California Dtsc full-time

    Pros

You get to work on projects that really make an impact.

    Cons

Opportunities for growth are severely limited. The scientists are dramatically under paid compared to the engineers. No motivation to be more productive.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at California Dtsc full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are one of the chosen ones, you get flexible working hrs. Pay and conditions can be good for some.

    Cons

Extremley entrenched burocracy. Management uses the state employee support program to punish employees that speak out. Orgnaization is in constantly state of reorg. Directors come and go, and have no power over middle managers that have carved out silos of power over decades. Those that work get more work, those that don't work don't work. The place is a mess. Pay is low and stagnent. No advancement unless you are a "yes" man. Protect the environment... I don't think so.

    Advice to Management

Leave already - so that more motivated and educated communicators can run the organization. This organization should be absorbed into the Water Board or completley disbanded in order to save tax payers money
