I worked at California University of Pennsylvania (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible Schedule, management is relaxed

    Automate more student related systems

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at California University of Pennsylvania part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pros really outweigh the cons. With twenty hour work weeks, and the opportunity to pay off your education with your earnings, working as a graduate assistant is a great job and Cal-U is a great university for work for

    Cons

There are really no cons of working as a graduate assistant. My biggest con, if I had to choose one, would be that you're limited from furthering your contract after graduation

    Advice to Management

Management is lovely to work for, although they could be a little more lenient on the 300 hour GA position, with sick days

I worked at California University of Pennsylvania (More than a year)

    Pros

Great working environment, friendly and helpful faculty staff. 20 hours of work per week helps you a lot to pay your tuition.

    Cons

    Nothing important on negative side.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

The people that I'm working with are so nice and helpful.

    Cons

The only thing that I can think of is even though I learned a lot about project management, data management, and leadership, the department i was working for was not directly relevant to my major.

I worked at California University of Pennsylvania full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work environment, friendly staff, safe environment, unionized

    Cons

State budget cuts, no mobility, you have to pay for parking

    Advice to Management

The students and bulk of staff are always paying more. But administrators and managers make fantastic salaries. Really not fair and kills morale.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at California University of Pennsylvania full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Positive, friendly work environment. Faculty and management are very down to earth for the most part. Good benefits and flexibility. You look forward to going to work every day. Unionized work environment.

    Cons

Being a state school, Cal U is suffering from budget cuts. There is a lot of administrative upheaval. Depending on where you work, there is instability. The pay rate for many positions is not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Protect staff and faculty rights more. We seem to suffer just so that Cal U can keep up the appearance of being a growing university.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at California University of Pennsylvania part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you have a job here, there is not much pressure at all. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

    Cons

There are not enough details shared about projects, making it difficult to interpret and carry out.

    Advice to Management

Hire some new people, eliminate some old folks who are set in their ways. A shakeup is long overdue.

"CalU is a great place to get an education and work at the same time."

    Pros

CalU is a great place to work while going to school at the same time. Many student are commuters and work various jobs as university employees to help pay for their education, such as being a notetaker for students with disabilities. You can actually get paid to take your own notes while helping another student succeed in learning. Professors are also helpful with recommending assitantships as another means of income.

    Cons

The assistantships are mainly part-time with varying hours that sometimes interfere with class schedules.

    Advice to Management

I was very pleased with my experience working for the University.

I have been working at California University of Pennsylvania part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They provide free training on belaying and general rock climbing safety measures. The environment is laid back. Whenever there are no climbers, we are free to get our own work done or just climb for fun.

    Cons

The wall does not get a lot of traffic. Many of the employees really enjoy climbing, and would like to see the wall have more students interested.
