I worked at California's Great America full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

During my time at Great America I got to create everlasting friendships with all sorts of people. I was lucky to always have an amazing team to work with in foods.

    Cons

The company itself did very little for us as employees. Instead of adding more benefits to create a happier more pro-active employee setting; they slowly took things away (I.e. Amount of free tickets per season, how much employee discounts were, etc). Evidently, every management employee that actually worked out on field in the foods department left one by one (including the director).

    Advice to Management

Make the work setting more enjoyable. Happy employees = higher productivity. I stayed as long as I stayed because of my coworkers.

I worked at California's Great America part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Overall, it was a good place to work. I worked at Great America for eight seasons where I worked up to operations supervisor. There is room to advance through seasonal management where you can get a good foundation and fundamentals; the trade off is the pay is not the best. If you are just interested in making a few dollars during the summer, it's not a bad place for that either.
The overall culture and attitudes are positive. Most people enjoy their job. They have a decent moral program with incentives and employee events and parties. Along with that, their counseling system is very well defined. You will not be blindsided with any issues.

    Cons

There is an air of favoritism and micro management. From what I have heard, some of the managers guilty of that are gone. The pay is not the best, the food options in the employee cafe are mostly theme park food with some fresh options at an ok price. Depending on where you are at in the park, the cafe could take you 5-10 minute walk each way on a lunch that is usually about 30 minutes, 45 max. Since it is a customer-centered business, they, at times, tend to take the word of the guest over the employee.

    Advice to Management

To the upper full-time managers: do not micromanage. Let the people you hire them to do.

I worked at California's Great America part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to know the cast and crew of the show working as Theater attendant
Outfits for last year's Theater attendant was a much improved from 2015 season
Get to work with some fun co-workers and make long lasting friendships

    Cons

Dealing with a few petty co-workers
Management can favorite the other associate if there is a physical/verbal argument at work
Will be standing for long periods of time
    Minimum wage
Worked like a slave at times
A/c may not work at a Theater in the summer

    Advice to Management

Stick to their word when letting the employee know they will work at the show they had their preference working at.Dont change their mind after a physical/verbal argument between associates.

I have been working at California's Great America part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I get to perform in a show I can be proud of, and that people have actually heard of for decent audiences and decent pay.

Company cafe is really cheap. At my last job there was no where to eat with out spending about 2 hours pay.

    Cons

Santa Clara is kinda in the middle of nowhere. It's hot too. Some of the managers are petty little trolls but their managers handle them well so it's not too bad having to put up with them.
Having to work along side high schoolers can suck. Most of them are fine but some have no grasp of professionalism or appropriate work place behavior yet.

    Advice to Management

I see you improving every day. Keep rooting out areas for improvement and working on them.

Advertise smarter. Six flags has better super-coasters. But that shouldn't be enough to make them competition. Most people can only go on 2-3 of those rides before they're done. You have ride variety, games, shows, just so much more to offer yet when I talk to people many would rather go to six flags because they're better advertised.

    Pros

Upbeat, good teams to work with. Lots of opportunity for employment. Great job to get your foot in the door or for summer part-time work.

    Cons

Lots of teenagers, good job for kids, not so great if you're an adult working with and being treated like a teenager.
