I have been working at California's Great America full-time

    Pros

The off season where you get to plan for a better future where you will be denied everything.

    Cons

Poor management driven by incompetent people who only cares about themselves. General Manager and Directors (with a minute exception) are unwilling to have an open ear, work as a team and have no concept of the mission. You are sold a dream in order for you to join the team and given nightmares when you're on the team. This is a poorly managed amusement park with managers and directors who only care about themselves and personal bonuses. Pure incompetence followed by arrogance.

    Advice to Management

Truly start thinking about the people that work for you and not so much yourselves. You must learn to be a believer. Leadership is not a rank it's something that is ingrained within your blood. Be open and willing to work with new people, be humble, and truly take the time to show the hourlies how important they are for your operation.

I worked at California's Great America part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Overall, it was a good place to work. I worked at Great America for eight seasons where I worked up to operations supervisor. There is room to advance through seasonal management where you can get a good foundation and fundamentals; the trade off is the pay is not the best. If you are just interested in making a few dollars during the summer, it's not a bad place for that either.
The overall culture and attitudes are positive. Most people enjoy their job. They have a decent moral program with incentives and employee events and parties. Along with that, their counseling system is very well defined. You will not be blindsided with any issues.

    Cons

There is an air of favoritism and micro management. From what I have heard, some of the managers guilty of that are gone. The pay is not the best, the food options in the employee cafe are mostly theme park food with some fresh options at an ok price. Depending on where you are at in the park, the cafe could take you 5-10 minute walk each way on a lunch that is usually about 30 minutes, 45 max. Since it is a customer-centered business, they, at times, tend to take the word of the guest over the employee.

    Advice to Management

To the upper full-time managers: do not micromanage. Let the people you hire them to do.
