I have been working at Cambridge Assessment full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Job security, the company will invest into your training and development, parental leave package, good holiday allowance - 26 days+bank holidays plus some other staff benefits. Internal opportunities to move and and progress between different business areas and departments

    Cons

It is not the most exciting company to work for. Lack of leaders that would inspire you, that you wold want to look up to. Generally lethargicatmosphere in the offices. Some areas of the business are absolutely lacking opportunities for progression, especially if you are in finance/business services/facilities

    Pros

The people - friendly and passionate about their work. There are many opportunities to move and progress internally if you want to and are committed. Huge learning and development programme. Good social events. Great pension.

    Cons

As you might expect with any large organisation of a similar size it can be a little bureaucratic at times.

I have been working at Cambridge Assessment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent DB pension. Good salary. Fantastic if you want to fade into the background and collect a salary every month.

    Cons

Senior management requires a thorough overhaul. ERP integration has clearly been a disaster but no-one seems willing to accept responsibility. Glass ceiling and very little progression from management/operational level to strategic level, even with multiple qualifications. Lack of willingness to accept ideas from people within the organisation. Lack of cross-sectional diversity policies in place - too much focus on simply complying with Equality legislation than pioneering truly diverse recruitment strategies. No diversity on boards - all made up from white middle class men or women.

    Advice to Management

Listen and engage staff better - especially in finance. Objectify the purpose of certain processes and try to rationalise the amounts spent with certain third parties (e.g. taxi companies, IT consultants) - is this really an effective use of resources, when the organisation primarily exists to benefit the University, not itself?

    Pros

    Only the food canteen really

    Cons

My managers were not really qualified for a software team and were just focused on protecting themselves all the time, the tools and practices were very antiquated

    Advice to Management

No passion for software development, please leave!

I worked at Cambridge Assessment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    the office is conveniently-located,
it is a modern office near the underground station

    Cons

The employees all day run around the city providing private English classes to their private students during working hours and even the top manager does the same giving private classes at the office or wherever she can get a client. So, it is not a company but a club of private teachers. When they get together at the office (which happens very seldom) they boast in front of each other how many classes they have and how much they earn, and the main problem which they discuss is how to increase the rate. Also, the employees get paid a double rate for working on Saturday or Sunday: even if they only worked for an hour they may get a pay for 16 hours on Saturday + 16 hours on Sunday. No one ever checks if they ever work. The top manager fully approves of this "strategy".

    Pros

    Easy work

Can't think about pros because although seems a very nice company from outside, when you really start working you quickly understand that you can't expect too much regarding professional realization

    Cons

    Bad salary
None progression at all if you don't know the right people
    Disorganized
Repetitive tasks and management wants you like a robot without any power of decision

    Pros

Safe, stable place to work with good communication from managers, annual reviews with performance related pay increases.

    Cons

Little to no opportunities for progression or development. Development activities and training feel tokenistic.

    Advice to Management

Provide talented and valued employees with real opportunities for progression - instead of losing them when they get fed up.
