    Pros

Relatively good pay for an entry level job. Good benefits. Cambridge is well known and respected by many in the investment community. Young coworkers. Ability to advance within department. Will pay up to $2500 in tuition assistance and encourages employees to take CFA exams by paying for them (if you fail, you have to pay back).

    Cons

Boring job. Rote data entry and publishing are better descriptors of the job than anything financial related. Even so, requires long hours and sometimes an overload of work. Sometimes you work 60+ hrs and are extremely stressed, while other times you have literally no work to do all week but are still required to be in office for 40 hrs.

    Advice to Management

    No advice.

    Pros

Good intiaial experience for young college graduates. Looks good on resume. Ability to work on multiple projects / asset classes. Most employee leave for business school after three to five years.

    Cons

Pay is sub standard for finance industry. Limited upward mobitlity. Corporate philosophy is very backwards looking, and firm management is afraid to be bold in taking new direction.

    Advice to Management

The future is not going to look like the past so stop looking in the rear view mirror. Founders' philosophy worked 20 years ago; time to re-assess.

    Pros

It pays well, it's a decent introduction to the world of finance, lots of young people, and the benefits are nice.

    Cons

The work lacks substance. As an associate, I would spend all my time hunting down performance numbers and checking work to make sure there were no obvious errors. If you had asked me on any day how the market was doing or what investment strategy seemed to be working, I would have had no clue.

    Advice to Management

I didn't find much wrong with the leadership. The truth is that it is a job that needs to be done and the nature of that work did not suit me very well as an aspiring college grad looking to utilize my critical thinking/analytical abilities.

    Pros

Collegial work environment that is ideal for a recent college graduate.

    Cons

Mislead about the quality and type of work I would be performing as an Investment Performance Associate.
Mid-level management incredibly out of touch with the work of their subordinates.
Operations/Performance Reporting department provides little potential for career development.
The work done in performance reporting does not translate well to any other position in Finance.

I worked at Cambridge Associates, LLC full-time

    Pros

I enjoyed working with my coworkers in the "secluded" office. They were about the only thing that kept me at Cambridge Associates.

    Cons

Lack of experienced management, communication, and help. When you speak up, no one ever listens or tries to fix the situation.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees when they speak up to you. We are speaking up for a reason.

I worked at Cambridge Associates, LLC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Cambridge is a great name to have on your resume as other companies in the investment management space really respect the firm. You do learn a lot about the industry and have access to some very smart people.

    Cons

Cambridge does not pay very well at all. They consistently talk about retaining top talent and the easiest way to do that it to pay them, Cambridge does not agree. They continue to hire every year despite need so redundancy is a real problem. There is virtually no way to move up to be a consultant unless you leave to work for another firm or get your MBA; however, once you've done that you don't want to come back to work for the salary that Cambridge offers.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be a very clear way to move up in the firm without leaving. If you want to retain the top talent, cultivate that talent when it is recognized. Pay more, people will put up with a lot of the office politics (and there is a ton there) and unimpressive managers if they are compensated accordingly. There also needs to be some accountability for superiors.

I have been working at Cambridge Associates, LLC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Smart, hard-working co-workers. Plenty of internal company resources within the financial services industry that allow analysts to learn easily if interested. Sponsorship for the CFA and CAIA are also a nice perk.

    Cons

Only a decent salary with not much room for growth. Job is highly cyclical, involves doing the same thing quarter after quarter. A lot of micro-managing within the firm.

    Advice to Management

Need to find a way to give entry-level employees more room for growth within the firm so that they will want to stay for longer.

    Pros

    - The consultants are smart, hard working, and dedicated to C|A's cause.
    - The firm is well respected; a thought leader within the pension/endowment space.
    - Strong work ethic exhibited throughout the firm.
    - Generous earned time off.
    - Fellow analysts are pretty cool.

    Cons

    - Management in PRG/MIG is extreme in their views.
    - Limited internal mobility both within the department and at the firm.
    - Monotonous work and underpaid for extreme work hours.
    - Little to no recognition for work being done.

    Advice to Management

Advice to firm wide management: take a second look at how the Wilson office employees are managed.
Open internal opportunities to all employees.
Focus more on development and less on keeping the norm.

    Pros

It's a decent job if you're fresh out of college. The pay is nothing special, but it will pay your bills. No real chance for upward mobility unless you get an MBA. Generally recruits undergraduates out of liberal arts colleges, very Caucasian heavy office with young guys and gals who recruit people who are similar to themselves, and thus the fraternal like culture.

    Cons

No real diversity, it would be nice to talk to a colleague who isn't stuck in the past about they glory days of Friday nights on campus.

    Pay isn't too good

    Advice to Management

Get some new fresh blood from different backgrounds besides your typical fraternity/sorority brother or sister.
