I have been working at Camden Property Trust full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Camden is built on core values that allows us to be empowered and have fun. Camden offers a number of different programs we can participate in such as the mentor program, Camden blogs, management advisory committee as well as some creative teams for our awards ceremony and conference skits. Camden offers great perks for it's employees - my favorite is the corporate suites. Benefits are great as compared to previous employers within the same industry.

    Cons

As every workplace has it's room for opportunities - I would have to say that head count per property could be reviewed for improvement. Seeing that Camden is such a great place to work for the number of upper management positions rarely come available leaving little room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to initiate reinvention.

    Pros

Camden provides all employees with a great training program with a lot of opportunity to learn more and advance your career.

    Cons

Sometimes there seems to be a 'one size fits all' approach across the company which doesn't always work. Compensation was a low for the area.

I worked at Camden Property Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good and the corporate suits are a plus.

    Cons

I worked with the company for 6 years. It used to be very customer focused. Our number 1 goal was to help ppl find a new home. At a time when ppl were losing their homes due to the economy we did whatever we could to help their transition into an apartment as comfortable as possible. I loved my job because I loved making my residents happy. A few years ago there was some major changes at corporate. It seemed at all the ppl that had been with the company were getting fired and all theses changes were happening. It turned from customet focused to money focused. No more waiving app fees or late fees. No exception!! My manager told us that every cent counts. She had me call a past resident from 2 years ago fort a $1 balance!!!! On top of that I couldn't except payment over the phone or online because it was such an old account it would not accept so I had to ask her to bring it in. On top of that we didn't accept cash either so I had to bring in a cashiers check! This was a resident who had lived with its for 7 years and who had written great reviews for us and then we put a bad taste in thier mouth over a $1!!!! Same manager had each of us employees make fake profiles on yelp in order to get great reviews so she would look good. We used to only chafe ppl for cleaning, paint and carpet shampoo. Only if resident really damaged something did we charged but that was rare. This manager made us charge for counter top replacements if there was little damage, Repaint ceilings , replace screens, replace blinds, tub reglaze, replace appliances. I'm pretty sure she just got promoted.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so money hungry. We lost do many great residents and employees because the entire culture of camden changing.

    Pros

Good work/life balance and you get out for a day to do volunteer work

    Cons

District and regional office have ALL the control and bonus structure could be a lot better. Residents know that they can call corporate if they do not like your decision. Politics are major key here so if you are up to playing politics instead of working hard then apply

    Advice to Management

Give more options/control to managers at the property level

I have been working at Camden Property Trust full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some of management is genuine and want to see you do well. Good at welcoming new employees to the family. Fun environment. Room for growth. Corporate is great and the President and CEO are both down to earth and approachable.

    Cons

Non stop gossip in the work place, especially from management. High turnover. Many Community Managers tend to pick favorites. Work life balance is awful. Employees make a lot of sacrifices but most get little recognition for it. Fake sense of family and culture. Some of the properties are concerning work environments as far as professionalism goes.

    Advice to Management

Find a solution for poor work-life balance of employees. Control the rumors that get spread and get community management stop promoting gossip.

I have been working at Camden Property Trust (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Can be a fun place to work depending on the community and team

    Cons

Used to be great, but has changed over the last few years. Gossip is bad and they can't seem to hold onto good employees. The culture is completely fake now and its a very clique-y. Management used to make you feel okay for making mistakes as long as you learned from them, but now its just a hostile environment where you feel like you're walking on eggshells. Employees don't get the recognition they deserve. The occasional weekend off is something that will typically never happen unless you're in management or a lap dog to management. If you ask for more than a couple weekends off a year, they make you feel bad for it almost like you're a failure.

    Advice to Management

Stop gossiping about employees, show some genuine appreciation and that you actually care about all of your employees, give AMs and LCs occasional weekends off without them having to request it. Give your employees more real recognition rather than showering them with cheap gifts as a poor attempt at "appreciation". Take a closer look at your leaders because there's a lot more that goes on at the properties that employees are too intimidated to report themselves.
