I worked at Cameco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work was challenging at times.

    Cons

Lack of direction at mine site. Corporate management (Saskatoon) not in tune with US operations. Take too long to make decisions, over analyze everything. Preach safety, but don't always follow through.

I have been working at Cameco full-time

    Pros

The Cameco facilities I know of all have good salaries and good benefit packages available to employees. People are willing to travel to get the pay. Matching program.

    Cons

Great deal of nepotism and sideways movement. Opportunities for upward movement very rare and training/time for education not provided for floor personnel wanting to make career moves. Stress at sites due to poor relationships between upper level and middle level and lower level employees.

    Advice to Management

It should be about more than pay. Listen to employee concerns and get to the root of the issue - there are easy ways to fix any problems if you pay attention and value your employees.

    Cons

    - Boring work
    - Lots of idle time
    - Everyone shoots everyone else because of politics all around and nothing gets done while millions are wasted

    Pros

Cameco has a dynamic and friendly corporate technical team. The Cigar Lake technical team is a very professional team and is making progress towards understanding the ore body and the safe and productive extraction thereof. They will be industry leaders in extracting ore in the geotechnical environment in which they are mining.

    Cons

Rather lacking on Rock Engineering discipline and data to support current mining activities

    Advice to Management

The Corporate position should be at least at the Principal Engineer level, and occupied by somebody with the appropriate practical operational experience and qualifications.

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Lots of opportunities for advancement
    Interesting work
Unique working style - at northern mine sites

    Cons

Northern employees are jaded, miserable, difficult to break in with as a new employee
Lots of bureaucracy, feels difficult to get any actual work done
Combative relationship between Corporate and northern mine sites
    Remote working environment
    Little support for new employees

    Advice to Management

    Develop more comprehensive on-boarding system

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

I worked in the exploration and mining operations, a sort of front line soldier, and out looking for new deposits. I enjoyed the northern Saskatchewan climate, terrain and especially the traditional people who still live off the land. Majority of the people I worked with understood team ethics and getting along, make the best of the time away from home. I learned about the whole uranium industry and geology with Cameco from the veteran geologists who were willing to share knowledge.

    Cons

Ego's, too many Mr. know it all's. Lack of communication skills from both management and employees.
    Big time generation gap issues.
    Wasteful on water use
    Power struggles
People bringing home issues to workplace.
    Lack of conflict resolution skills.

    Advice to Management

New employees would like to feel valued. When people resign from Cameco, like less than a 2 years, should that not be a concern and ask why.
Workload during the drilling season did not equal compensation very well. Diamond drillers were making more than Cameco employees!?!?
