I worked at Camelot Global full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent benefits and reasonable pay.
Intelligent and interesting coworkers, some incredibly great people.
    Mostly very decent executive management.
Opportunities for international experience and travel.

    Cons

If you are a contractor you do not get any of the great benefits they offer permanent employees.
Sometimes difficult to advance in the company.

    Advice to Management

You probably need more admins and assistants as workload is heavy and they are being stretched too thin, especially for the pay (only unreasonable given the workload).

I worked at Camelot Global full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have a class act in recruitment and get great people through the door, who know what they are doing and are eager to get stuck in and make a difference.

Their vision for the company is spot on, and goes to the heart of exactly what they should be doing.

They have great opportunities in front of them globally, and the right people to take advantage of them.

    Cons

There is a massive cultural and mental divide between their operations in Holborn, Watford and Athens. These worlds could not be further apart.

Their senior management drops the company vision at every opportunity, going for short term gain or customer appeasement over long term benefits of the business.

Poor decision making, and lack of willingness to actually make decisions other than by committee, leading to major delays in rollout of new features.

Those members of staff who do stand out from the pack and want to make things better, get their heads chopped off. Significant numbers of staff simply disappearing after meetings, never to be seen again, with no explanation.

Very low morale within the development teams. Arbitrary deadlines from unknown sources providing unnecessary pressures directly onto team members, leading to missed target after missed target, and increases in sickness and 'working from home'.

Poor adoption of Scrum. If they tell you that you will be working in an agile scrum environment, then you are being lied to. Scrum will be tentatively used only when there is not a more pressing and urgent thing to deal with in a waterfall fashion, which is every other day.

PM function sitting on top of scrum, inviting teams to 'reevaluate their estimations' until the cost per story point they have calculated aligns with the fictional cost of the project, made up without prior consultation with the teams.

This is sadly a sinking ship of a development house, that despite a strong team of good people has been repeatedly failed by senior management and its inability to uphold its core ideals against the idiotic demands of its customers.

    Advice to Management

Stick to your guns on your long term vision - when a customer asks a lottery company to build something for sports betting, you are doing them as well as you a favor by telling them to go elsewhere.

Trust your development teams - the expensive ones that you take time and effort to hire. Trust them more than the cheap and easy labour you hire without effort overseas - the expensive ones are expensive for a reason.

Be passionate with your goals, without being aggressively stupid. Setting your teams up to fail with impossible deadlines is a demonstration of why you should not be in charge, and why you probably won't be for much longer.

    Pros

Good team of people, lots of ambiguity and being able to crack on with work without lots of red tape.

    Cons

Location is terrible (Watford). Unless you live local, I wouldn't consider it as the traffic is horrendous. What should have been a 40 minute drive, became 2 hours due to traffic.

I have been working at Camelot Global full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As a "start up" and an offshoot of Camelot UK, they have exciting times ahead with new business ventures around the World, hence the word Global. The working culture here is amazing. The QA team is wonderful and a pleasure and everyone talks to each other like family. The work sometimes can be repetitive but that's with all testing roles, but at least you have the great working culture and to wear anything you want is a plus.

And we also have a table tennis room with more promised game rooms!

    Cons

Office looks dull - BUT they are currently redeveloping the offices in Watford and the concept looks amazing.

Location - unless you live in Hertfordshire and can travel to Watford, or live in London and can travel to Holborn if you are based there, it's quite a long journey. But you get used to it.

    Advice to Management

Keep engaging with your employees and they'll continue to do amazing work together. Maybe give us off-site fun events during working hours once per year.

    Pros

A real positive, energetic, passionate environment. Knowledgeable people, interesting and varied projects to work on. Nice offices and supplied equipment and systems seem to all work very well.

    Cons

Hot desking is taking a little getting used to, and offices a little minimalistic. But that's all I can think of.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. Definitely going in the right direction.

should have fruit for staff (like Holborn)
Also should have a drink for Friday (like Holborn)

    Pros

New ideas flow through the organisation; desire to challenge how we do things and change it
Potential to disrupt the Lottery industry that is in many respects archaic

As the organisation grows there will be ample opportunity for career advancement
