    Pros

Easy going, friendly environment, room for growth if you are a hard worker, flexible schedule

    Cons

Seems like they hire just about anyone because they are so understaffed, which doesn't make the situation any better.

I worked at Camp Fire USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I can only speak to my own council (which I won't specify here) but pros include:
The opportunity to work with a wonderful and tight knit community of volunteers.
Very generous PTO and ability to almost entirely determine your own schedule.
    Extremely fulfilling work with youth.
    Great medical benefits.
Free summer day and resident camp sessions for children of employees.

    Cons

Camp Fire is a wonderful organization and is doing fantastic work providing inclusive camp and extra curricular opportunities to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity. That being said, everything about the organization is stagnant and rooted in an extremely out of date model. The organization is so fractured and individual councils have diverged so much from one another that they are almost unrecognizable. This would not be such a major issue if the overarching National office was not attempting to force a unified agenda upon the individual councils. These issues combine to form an organization that is having enormous difficulties adapting to modern times. Pay is extremely low (I operated for my first two years on a salary of $26,500), which would not be such a problem if there was an opportunity to make meaningful forward strides towards a livable income. Unfortunately, even if raises were something the organization could afford (which they cannot) the point is moot given the fact that the organization is on a course to shut down entirely within the next decade. I love this organization and am still a very active volunteer, so it makes me very sad to write this.

    Advice to Management

To National: Please shutter the national office and give the individual councils the freedom to grow and evolve on their own. It may not ultimately save the organization, but your tight control is rendering your individual councils dramatically less effective at adapting to the modern world. Your fees are crippling, and the curriculae you provide are nearly useless, as most councils have developed individual programs that are much more in touch with their localities and members. If you love Camp Fire and want to see it survive into the next century, please relinquish your stranglehold on the individual councils.

I worked at Camp Fire USA part-time

    Pros

    Wonderful for college students
    Great HR Department
    Flexible
    Offers full time positions

    Cons

    Don't pay travel expenses
Re-hires employees that had complaints made against them

    Advice to Management

You need to raise money to be able to pay staff who come from other countries and states.

I have been working at Camp Fire USA part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

As a National organization, they have made a great effort to keep staff informed and trained at many levels. Making great strides in innovative work methods with youth. Encourages staff input and always listens.

    Cons

All councils are independent and have a hard financial time keeping up with best practices as National would want them to.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Camp Fire USA full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great program
    Kids love it
    Schools love it
    Fun and educational

    Cons

They hired someone who destroyed the program in southern CA

    Advice to Management

Bring it back to southern CA. The program was a success in all aspects. It was the director who sabotaged the program.
