You will be surrounded by sharp, motivated people. Most employees own stock which leads to proactive, results oriented behavior.

    Cons

After being in growth mode the curren market slowdown for resource companies has led to pullback in hiring, some turnover and layoffs in fixed income and cash equities groups.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Strong mid and small cap coverage. Very good sales and trading operation that competes with any larger shop. Access to strong research and established client pipeline.

    Cons

Canaccord Genuity has some very wonderful people who are respectful and smart. However, there is an entrenched attitude of easternly elitism in some of the larger, older offices.

    Advice to Management

Communication and written protocal trump all else. Employees need access to honest job reviews and bonus related awards. Keep up the good work.

    Pros

Decent pay, hours not terrible compared to other banks.

    Cons

Morale was at an all-time low, management solely in it for themselves. Extreme lack of communication, no mentor-ship and left with a very sour taste. Couldn't pay me enough to go back.

    Advice to Management

Follow through with what what you say and take an interest in your employees.

    Cons

    • Senior management lacks vision and cohesiveness
    • Compensation structure in some groups is very poor and imbalanced
    • No succession planning or investment in top performing staff

    Advice to Management

    • Reward performance instead of loyalty and tenure
    • Embrace millennials

    I worked at Canaccord full-time

    Pros

    Great friendly employees, short hours

    Cons

Managers clearly favor some employees over others, but do not reward nor recognize the individuals actually doing the work, rather they reward employees who spy on and point fingers at others. Integrity and honesty are usually considered signs of weakness. When it comes to bonuses they'll payout 5-6 figure bonuses to management and executives and "sales" people, but then tell everyone else the market is too bad for anyone else to get a reward.

    Advice to Management

Time to clean house and stop promoting managers who have clearly no idea how to recognize and motivate employees. There are some good people there with good ideas, it's time to start listening to THEM and shutting down their managers who prevent them from speaking up.

I worked at Canaccord full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small firm, can see it was once entrepreneurial.

Currently the only independent Canadian broker dealer, bank. It's possible to make a lot of money in a very short period of time before the politics catch-up with you.

    Cons

good people have been politicized and removed via weaponized infighting - hr complaints, fake performance reviews and replaced by cronies and serial "fixers" from other firms. If you're not a part of the friends and family deal don't bother. If your skin colour is a shade too dark WatchOut - Your abilities will be undermined and marginalized. Watch out for their HR department, and admin staff - they are from the twilight zone, Vancouver based not a clue of how to do their jobs-experts at covering their backsides and raising HR complaints if you look like you are a threat to their survival. CEO is a joke, staff are alcoholics, drugged out, some say the photo copy machine is over active after hours - trade support staff like sitting on them with no clothes on ala "wolf of Wall Street"

    Advice to Management

Fix your racist and discriminatory culture
