I worked at Canada Revenue Agency (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had 4-month co-op experience at CRA and learned so much. Very friendly and relaxed environment but everyone is very focused and get their work done with extreme professionalism. Loved the experience here!

    Cons

Too much volunteer and fundraising events that require co-op students to participate.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Canada Revenue Agency full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Work-life balance, equal wages, highly unionized environment, respectful workplace.

    Cons

The upper management are old-timers that are hardly qualified to be doing the work they do. An environment of compliance and seniority rules out any standard reasoning for change or action.

    Advice to Management

Promote people based on skill and aptitude, rather than seniority.

I worked at Canada Revenue Agency as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Stable, flexible hours, friendly coworkers and large intern cohort to socialize with. Coworkers very willing to help, and supervision is lax.

    Cons

There was little mobility in the job description, and its difficult to bring ideas forward. Generally stuck to the same daily tasks with little variation. Work was generally repetitive with no feedback from the supervisor until the end of the term.

    Advice to Management

Automation of some tasks will allow interns to focus on more value adding activities. Providing more immediate feedback will help track intern progress.

I worked at Canada Revenue Agency as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

People are very friendly and the environment is strict, contrary to what many people may think. You learn about the Canadian tax system and also improve your communication skills significantly from constantly talking to different kinds of people.

    Cons

No holidays, weird working hours, and the your shifts and breaks are closely monitored. Punctuality is absolutely key and if taken lightly can be consequential.

    Advice to Management

Be a little more lenient on employees, improve training course to include more time on the phone because when agents find themselves on the job, they will struggle a lot for the first week or so.
