I have been working at Canadian National Railway full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

With CN you get weekly assigned days off. The pay at CN is the best of all class I railroads.

    Cons

As with all railroads, the FRA has their hands all over the place. Makes it hard to do your job without criticism.

I have been working at Canadian National Railway full-time

    Pros

Great experiences, travel, working with good people, great pay, great benefits, excellent railroad experience

    Cons

Poor management, long hours, doing "favors" for management who will turn around and fire you with no recollection of all of the hard, extra work you did to make them look good so they can collect their bonus.

    Advice to Management

Quit calling me on my day off. No, I'm not coming in, and no I won't ever come in on my day off. Every time you come in, there's a risk you might get fired.

I worked at Canadian National Railway as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The internship program is well thought out and they pretty much let you pick what you want to do.

    Cons

If the supervisor that you get assigned to isn't enthusiastic about having an intern around or is generally stressed out due to his projects, then your experience might suffer.

I worked at Canadian National Railway as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

CN pays well and can basically offer a lifetime career at the company.

    Cons

Vacation time is non-negotiable. It is determined by how long you have worked at the company. It is quite old-fashioned in terms of corporate culture and managerial structure. There is not much room to grow and develop for an entry-level position.

    Advice to Management

Apart from keeping up with the times in terms of technology, I think more people would be willing to work at CN if vacation time was increased from just one week in the first year of work.
