I have been working at Canadian Natural Resources full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent compensation. Good work/life balance. Great people.

    Cons

Gilded cage. "Develop people" seems to only apply at a certain level. Union mentality - advancement opportunity based on longevity, not skill.

    Advice to Management

Be prepared for an exodus. Recognize skill and the people who still care. Quit protecting the slackers, cut them free.

I worked at Canadian Natural Resources full-time

    Pros

Had company shares that you could cash in on yearly including a signing bonus.

    Cons

Was very clicky and meetings could end up being personal when they should be business.

    Advice to Management

I feel it's best to choose employees based on their abilities and not because you know them. Maybe work is not the place to let personal things get in the way of business.

    Pros

Company had little to no lay offs during economic down turn, maintained a strong balance sheet.
7/7 schedule is decent, probably one of the best for a commuter job.

    Cons

Low level management has very little experience for particular industry, and are unable to make realistic decisions when planning. When bad management decisions or lack of planning cause delay in production, than the hourly employees are strong armed into sacrificing work schedule to rush the project.
There is a large buddy-buddy system, where a friends career advances over the qualified person. Pay scale is very inconsistent with relative experience.
No pension for incentive to maintain long term employment.

    Advice to Management

Promote people with experience in particular area. Rethink the mission statement and see if its being adhered to. Create a proper grooming strategy to move qualified knowledgeable people into leadership roles. Hire external experienced area manager to avoid favoritism.

I worked at Canadian Natural Resources as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good pay
    - Food & Shelter provided
    - 5 min walking distance to work

    Cons

    - not really an engineering work. Was mainly asked to do menial task including photocopy
    - no one care about intern

    Advice to Management

Please give more opportunity for intern to learn about the work.
Using intern as a cheap labor is just doesn't look good for the company.
