    I worked at Canadian Solar full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    There are some nice people in the marketing and finance departments who come to work to do their job and who are very professional too.

    Cons

    Where do I begin? This place is run by bullies. They insult coworkers regularly and gossip is rampant. They set up people to fail if they don't like them and talking loudly and swearing is common here. And if you are bold enough to speak up to management it gets worse. Ironically you have to take a harassment course when you start working there and everything they say they will not tolerate...is tolerated.

    Advice to Management

    Take IMMEDIATE actions towards bullies and protect people that are there to work and be professional. Don't close your doors and allow it because that person has been there for a long time. And then when someone comes to you for support PLEASE back them up with the appropriate action and please let it remain anonymous so that person is not subject to more retaliation.

    Pros

    Red tape seems minimal, office is in a nice location, compensation isn't terrible.

    Cons

    No communication, no direction, no opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to Management

    Focus on transparency and company-wide communication.

    Pros

    There are zero pros to working here. Collectively the most unethical group of people. Working here will make you a worse person and will contribute negative effects on your mental health. You are better off collecting unemployment checks until you get hired somewhere else. Anyone decent has already left.

    Cons

    Too many to count. I'm not sure how they are in business since almost everything that goes on here is highly unethical and in most cases illegal. Very political. If you lack a soul and enjoy stabbing others in the back for your personal benefit then you will do well here. Affairs are also common and make it difficult for anyone with any dignity.

    Advice to Management

    Get your act together. The way you are doing business is not sustainable. What goes around comes around...

    Pros

    Reasonable compensation
    They are starting to focus on employee ergonomics
    Some wonderful people work there

    Cons

    Chinese company = Factory worker thinking
    All decisions made in China, US office is just a re-seller with no decision power, even when the decisions coming out of China are ridiculous.
    Some managers do no understand the industry, and are not capable of properly evaluating potential partner technology.
    Poor work distribution leads to a lot of busy work and little meaningful work.
    Non existent work life balance: Middle management discusses work life balance, but the work load and timing do not allow it. Once again, since it is a Chinese company, a lot of meetings, discussions and decisions happen in China time (starting at 4-5pm PST). This leads to a full day of work + extra hours expected for discussions with the team in China.

    Advice to Management

    Re-evaluate current middle management. Go through one by one if necessary to assess whether or not they actually understand the industry and the upcoming technologies being released.
    Hire a China/US liaison, with enough clout in China to actually make a difference.

    Pros

    The CEO has a good vision but needs to up the morale. Company has a relatively good product for a good price.

    Cons

    The company is too focused on cutting costs/corners in every level at the expense of its employees. Employees are constantly worried that they will be fired/laid off due to management's fear tactics. There is a lot of nepotism, favortism, and backstabbing going around. Employees that have been there for years have not seen raises. Low to zero appreciation for employees or their efforts.

    Advice to Management

    Bring in managers that are not just out for themselves but that see the big picture and genuinely are interested in seeing their employees develop. The employee morale will see a boost if you do this. Invest in your employees and see them as an asset instead of a liability. Ditch the fear tactics.

    I have been working at Canadian Solar (More than a year)

    Pros

    This company accepts everyone that applies... to its factory jobs.

    Cons

    As per title, the management is hectic, conflict of interest and the lack of cooperation between the head office in China and the management here in Canada is jarring. And the feeling filters down to the bottom level employees, who are very often at a loss as to what to do and who to listen to.

    People are promoted to better positions not based on merit of experiences or skills, but rather, how apt you are at sucking up to your immediate supervisor. Automatic raises at intervals are denied based on, not how well the company is doing, but rather, whether your supervisor "likes" you. And for those whom the supervisor cannot tame into a complete yes-man, that means you'll be denied promotions and wage increase (allegedly automatic), for completely arbitrary reasons.

    The HR department defines the word useless. And problem you bring to these people and you'd get a glorified come-the-hell-down speech. And that will be the end of the matter. Internal job postings are fake, people were chosen for a certain job beforehand, (again, suggested by their supervisors), and posting them is merely a gesture, a procedure to be followed.

    Advice to Management

    Too many things to fix, there's no need for names here, but ask around for some general opinions and you'd be sure to get a few ones that will always pop up.

    -competitive pay
    -relaxed and easy enviroment

    Cons

    -unethical business practices
    -unprofessional management
    -racist people (if you have an office in Canada, learn to respect Canadian culture else you would not be able to survive for long)
    -no future growth
    -Engineering directors have poor performance resulting in poor team

    Advice to Management

    focus more on equal level and good conflict management solution.

    Pros

    The people working on line are nice and factory is clean.

    Cons

    The worst job I have ever had! They pay minimum wage, standing in same spot on factory line for 12 hours everyday all day is very painfu and boringl. Never given 25 cent raise as promised every 3 months. The management is very lazy and mean, always yelling at people to work faster, calling them stupid and lazy. Factory stinks of chemicals and is very noisey and hot. If you are injured from constant repetitive, excessive physical demands and call in sick, you are fired and WSIB does not pay for you to recover. Most employees are Chinese immigrants that do not speak English and feel trapped and most people quit after a month, very high turnover.

    Advice to Management

    It is a lost cause, they simply do not care about people and think people are disposable. Treat the robots better and they only want to hide in their office and pretend to know how to manage - no training or experience managing people and it shows as staff hate the management there.

    Pros

    If you are working in office, the environment is somewhat relaxed. In general the colleagues are nice except the Engineering directors. The free coffee provided in the cafeteria is of poor quality. It feels like you are working as a slave not as an employee. Simply put its a new form of slavery.

    Cons

    The company is on a track to lose. Technically competent people tend to leave the company within few months of joining. They are really facing a tough time to retain the competent people. The people working in the plants are not treated well. The management has not ethical and moral values. They are just concerned about how they can make more money.

    All the positive reviews on this website seems to be posted by their marketing department and by the staff who has been asked to put good reviews on here to keep their rating good as many new employee may check this website before accepting an offer. So if you are one of those, be ware that the good reviews are mostly put on by the employees on the direction of management. They also have this habit of bringing new employees from the companies who work as their contractors or equipment suppliers. Beware that they may offer you a higher salary but once they have got what they wanted from you, they will kick you out.

    Advice to Management

    Change your attitude towards employee. Learn how to respect people and don't put money over everything.
