I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay is average for big company
Perks such as 17.5% discount of all CT owned stores. Lots of free stuff.
Great location! right off subway station. lots of food
Other companies recognize CT. A good stepping stone.
Work from home (although I felt it was frowned upon)
OT pay (at least for me)

    Cons

From my experience managers are pure delegaters. They don't do anything except assign tasks and wait for it to be done. No technical proficiency.

No one thinks about the long term. Deadlines are stressed to be met, regardless of how sloppy the solution. This usually fixes 1 short term problem, but creates 5 long term problems.

After 6 months I felt my life was on repeat. Doing the same thing day in day out. There is not enough to learn and very little growth.

Workload was not properly defined. I've done a lot of work for other managers & teams with no recognition. I wouldn't have a clue what last minute requests would come up.

Very rarely do I come across smart people. Most of my team are 35+ years old. I'd prefer hanging with my age range (mid twenties).

Many teams fighting against each other, as no one wants to take on more work because everyone is supposedly "swamped". This starts a lot of office gossip.

*These cons are specific to my experience. I know people who love working here. I feel I just got unlucky. Regardless of where you work, it really boils down to the style and knowledge of your manager. It's hard to love your job if you don't trust your manager.

    Advice to Management

Pay good attention to your employees' remarks. I know many people looking to leave after poor management. If mistreated, you will lose the few bright employees you have.

    Pros

Customer focused with a keen understanding in conflict resolution and customer facing operations. You have opertunity to gain high CSI scores for the store

    Cons

not enough pull to control store wide execution of customer facing operations. if you aren't in charge of all managers you will just spin your wheels and not yield CSI results you desire.

    Advice to Management

Let your customer experience managers have highest authority when it comes to customer facing operations and execution. don't let them get hen pecked by the peanut gallery...

    Pros

Great company when in school, flexible hours and awesome people to work with.

    Cons

Pay is low and if not in school to get more money then its extremely hard to live off of the pay. Sometimes there's drama mixed between the employees and its annoying to work with.

    Advice to Management

Give the fulltime employees enough money to live off of. Give them raises every 6 months and treat them with respect.

I worked at Canadian Tire part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people that work there in the floor usually are very nice individuals. The customers can be quite nice and can be good to network with sometimes. Depends on the department, some are better to work in than others.

    Cons

The management is absolutely terrible. They micromanage every single aspect of the store, to the point where you can't even do your job without being harassed by some department manager or supervisor. The management was quite condescending at my store. Some customers can be terrible individuals.

    Advice to Management

    Stop micromanaging your employees.

    Pros

Great place to learn supply chain. Training is great & good pay for a first job. Culture is fun, always a pleasure to come to work every day.

    Cons

No upward movement potential. You must laterally move a few times over many years in order to move up a pay level.

    Advice to Management

They need to be better at recognising peoples ability. People work hard & want to progress, but are not able to do so easily.
