I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time

    Pros

The company is great at ensuring the lifestyle while at work is the best possible. There are numerous events going on, especially during the Winter and Summer Olympics. They are very invested in Jumpstart, and it's great to know that a company is strongly behind promotion youth sports and athletics.

    Cons

Base salary tends to be a bit below market, although this is made up for via the profit sharing award that is handed out annually (the amount is equal to a certain percentage of your gross salary).

    Advice to Management

Continue to manage the company as you have been, as no other Canadian retailer is even close to reaching the levels of success that CanTire has in recent years.

    Cons

Technology rotation program is still new. Too much pressure on capex spend.

I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance, great co-coworkers, and great opportunities for process improvements. Health benefits are average at best, but the profit sharing and stock purchase plans are pretty good.

    Cons

Doesn't pay as much base pay as competing companies for similar roles. There's a lot of red tape to break through to get anything even remotely I.T.-related done.

I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great crew. Managers do their job.

    Cons

Much politics within department of customer service.
Hiring cashier with the capability of deceiving customers
Retail Manager has no people skills and involved too much with the percentages one hundred percent of the time and hardly ever comes down from his tower to spend each day with staff. Only relates with the young and beautiful.

    Advice to Management

Come down from your glass tower and work on the cash lanes to get to know how your voice loses its tenor when you have been asking if they have a Canadian Tire Money card for 6 to 8 hours. Smile and be more personable most of all to staff, and a positive comment goes a long way.

I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Company culture, great benefits. An iconic retailer leading the way in retail in Canada. The Company moves at a fast pace, forward looking, with a dynamic leader. This is a great place to build a career, lots of opportunity for employees to move throughout the Company. Proud to be part of this great Canadian story!

    Cons

There aren't really any cons to working for this fast paced retailer. Management has integrity, the Company is well run, and the results attest to that. Bring your best, and you'll be rewarded!

    Advice to Management

Keep leading the way for retail in Canada!

I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, nice corporate events and an ok place for young people with not much experience to start their careers.

    Cons

EXTREMELY conservative, non-progressive management. I had many talented co-workers end up leaving only because they were not well connected; but clearly very talented employees. Pay is below average. Many managers, team leads should not be in the positions they are in. Company talks about talent and development but it's just smoke screen. If you are experienced, looking for promotions then this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Recognize real talent and promote them. Don't let the real talent walk out the door just because they are not well connected.
