I worked at Canadian Tire part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people that work there in the floor usually are very nice individuals. The customers can be quite nice and can be good to network with sometimes. Depends on the department, some are better to work in than others.

    Cons

The management is absolutely terrible. They micromanage every single aspect of the store, to the point where you can't even do your job without being harassed by some department manager or supervisor. The management was quite condescending at my store. Some customers can be terrible individuals.

    Advice to Management

    Stop micromanaging your employees.

    Pros

Friendly Staff really varies, but that was one of the main reasons I enjoyed working

    Cons

Depends on management however, at the location I was working at no one was allowed to leave till the store was tidy, and we weren't paid for this overtime.

    Advice to Management

Don't expect too much from staff working minimum wage

I worked at Canadian Tire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Overall this is a wonderful company to work for. They have great benefits, profit sharing, employee events, etc. In many ways it is world class.

    Cons

Canadian Tire talks a lot about treating people with respect and integrity yet one Associate Vice President and one Vice President willingly allowed a departmental manager to act in an abusive, explosive, intimidating, threatening manner toward her team, fellow colleagues and vendors. She literally yelled at and insulted people on a regular basis, and uttered threats about making sure people would never work in this industry again if they crossed her. Absolutely no action was taken about her behaviour, despite widespread awareness and complaints.

    Advice to Management

    Practice what you preach!!

I have been working at Canadian Tire full-time

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, nice corporate events and an ok place for young people with not much experience to start their careers.

    Cons

EXTREMELY conservative, non-progressive management. I had many talented co-workers end up leaving only because they were not well connected; but clearly very talented employees. Pay is below average. Many managers, team leads should not be in the positions they are in. Company talks about talent and development but it's just smoke screen. If you are experienced, looking for promotions then this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Recognize real talent and promote them. Don't let the real talent walk out the door just because they are not well connected.

I worked at Canadian Tire part-time

    Pros

    Discount
Most customers are friendly, you'll come across really nice people
    Nice and friendly staff members
    Closed on holidays

    Cons

    Micromanagement
You have to call a manager or departments for everything
Stand in one spot all day (can not move, literally. Unless asked to do other tasks)
    Repetitive (becomes boring fast)

    Advice to Management

Stop talking down on your employees
    Lose the sarcasm and attitude
    Learn emotional intelligence
Increase level of professionalism with customers and employees (you are representing a reputable company)
