    Pros

Solid starting pay and plenty of overtime available. Company provides decent training however you need to push yourself fast paced environment does not allow for much error. If making solid money is your only goal you'll be fine however forget a personal life.

    Cons

Union is not as strong as it should be unable to cover members rights or some of their own bylaws. Management is unstable and seems as if every job deadline is a moving target. Weekend work is the norm including Sundays (double time). Canadian based HQ out of touch with realistic work/goals/agenda.

    Advice to Management

No advice that you'd like to hear. Look in the mirror and review how you operate leaves a lot to be desired.

I have been working at Canam full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many of coworkers are wonderful people.

    Cons

Very poor pay. Shop issue is lead by a very poor manager who usually fires anyone that stands up against him for any reason.

    Advice to Management

New managment in shop issue desperately needed, especially considering legal issues have arose and were swept under the rug.

    I worked at Canam full-time

    Pros

Canam is a growing company in the steel trusses and girder industry. They always work good hours and give you room to advance.

    Cons

Only downsides would be the beauracracy side of the company. They like to keep guys with the most skills underpaid and make false promises.

    Advice to Management

Give your employees the chance to advance that have been there forever instead of hiring in new people to make the big bucks that have no idea what's going on. Also hiring a ton of temp employees and wondering why things don't get done? They are temporary why would you think they would out work your employees that have been there for years.

I have been working at Canam (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have enjoyed working with most of my co-workers, the benefits are fairly good. and there is a relaxed office culture.

    Cons

Pay is average. There is a big push to improve processes, it seems to ineffective and pretty wasteful.

    Advice to Management

Clearly communicate what is expect when you are trying to change things.

    Cons

upper management are too busy trying to establish health and safety culture, they do not focus on work culture
health benefits are slim, many things are not covered under insurance
annual pay review will never increase more than 4% (barely cover inflation)

I worked at Canam full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good Experience for recent grad in manufacturing and civil engineering. Good experience to become accustomed to manufacturing and industrial environement

    Cons

Unclear instructions/expectations as this is new work being done. This position should take into consideration the needs and schedule of production department and that of the maintenance department.

    Advice to Management

Attempt to structure this role. The health and safety culture is very strong with upper management and in the maintenance department but less so with production.

I have been working at Canam full-time

    Pros

A fantastic company to work for. Great co-workers, great opportunities, great benefits, and lots of fun. Many social events, locally and sometimes at head office.

    Cons

Only thing inconvenient is the eye benefits. They don't have the greatest when it comes to eye appointments or buying glasses.

I worked at Canam full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good place to work, you would feel like part of a family. Good perks, lately they brought salaries up with the rest of industry. Good mentorship for young people and they are the best in their domain. In times of economic turmoil, they will keep most of the people.

    Cons

Not a very diverse company. 80% of employees are Quebec born and the rest are invisible minorities, like Europeans. Not many opportunities for advancement once you peaked. It's a family owned company and that comes with some negative points.

    Advice to Management

Be more diverse in your employment and recognize value wherever it has the right name or not.
