I worked at Candu Energy part-time

    Pros

Fun to work at, the people, the location isn't too far from where I live, the amenities are close by, overtime is paid for

    Cons

Not much to really say for what is a con except for the fact that the work can sometimes get boring. Not too often, just at certain times in the year.

I worked at Candu Energy (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits and pension (for now, but it is going to be decreased)
    Great co-workers to commiserate with

    Cons

    Poor salaries for non-unionized employees
Poor morale due to uncaring management

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with some respect and show them that you value them. The ones who are able to find jobs elsewhere already have or are actively looking to get out of there! It's a sgame because AECL was once a wonderful place eh to work. Then when SNC bought it, it slowly became more and more awful to work there.

I worked at Candu Energy full-time

    Pros

    Good benifits, flex hours, days

    Cons

Company has unions, one is very dominet. No challenging work just recycled designs, lots of dead wood, management needs to be gutted get ride off middle management, working here will degrade your skills. No advancement in career. Crappie tranning for some groups. They say teamwork but this is not (unions)

    Advice to Management

Fire middle management, Listen to the workers.

I have been working at Candu Energy full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some of the smartest people you will work with
    Can be very interesting work
Union has helped steer the new owners from totally destroying the company. Protection.
    Purpose
    Recent CEO is impressive
Great potential work on the horizon

    Cons

Candu was once AECL, a crown corporation. Harper sold/gave the company to SNC and Candu was formed. AECL was a fantastic place, operating like NASA in it's early days. It was an inventive and leading edge place where people specialized, experts were created and getting it right was all that mattered. However, since privatization, SNC bungled the transition with initial poor management and a lack of understanding of what the Nuclear industry was about, lead to lay-offs and low moral. Things are starting to turn a corner, and while it is still a good paying job with interesting work, it will be a little while before it resolves itself. What was once a 5 star place to work dropped to a 1, and is now heading towards a 3. Management is working to figure out what of AECL culture should be kept and what of the private sector model should be incorporated.

    Advice to Management

Do not try to run nuclear the way other SNC divisions run. It's not the same. You will break it.
