I have been working at Canfor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good clean mill with fairly new equipment. Knowledgeable team with a lot of experience between us.

    Cons

Management does not share ideas or goals with production team or maintenance team. We are basically left in the dark until the "time comes". Little to no advance warning for large projects and horrible inventory management with parts and supplies.

    Advice to Management

Revamp the inventory and catalog it in some fashion. Indrucing SAP and fully intgrading it into the PO and work order center corroborating to the inventory would be so much better.
Share plans and details of project with the maintenance team better. Hold meetings pertaining to the reliability and performance of machines and express expectations.

    Pros

Good manager, supervisors are easy to talk to, safety first attitude, opportunity to meet many contractors

    Cons

Remote location (need a vehicle to get to work), lime dust will stick to your vehicle and is really annoying, many offices don't have windows

    Advice to Management

    Update asset management system

    Pros

    Great wages and overtime opportunities.

Room for advancement into apprenticeships or management.

    Great plant manager.

    Cons

Some operators are grumpy which can make the workplace feel negative.

It takes around 5 years seniority or more to get an apprenticeship.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Canfor as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent work environment prioritized on safety and excellent pay. I definitely would work for this company again as they treat their employees very fairly and just.

    Cons

Work can be tiring and gruesome and risk of health issues. The working hours can be tiring and long have to work in the early hours of the morning and mill shut downs can be tough work.

    Advice to Management

Not much entirely keep things the way they are great management team that are at canfor who seem to know what they are doing.

I have been working at Canfor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Canfor is a company which has multiple cultural and equal opportunity , has good benefits and union based for employees .Canfor also gives trade apprentices for employees and has good environmental area ,,I can say 'Canfor based on employees and employees based to Canfor'

    Cons

the only one the downside working in Canfor is just dusty area and may affect healthy ,,and most of the area is hazard so every body must concern safety every movement at all the time .actually some times there is stress and pressure during production ,this happen because of to produced or increased the number of production with a loud sound and when the Machin got problem, this stress or pressure shows that how the employees stand or committed their own position responsibility.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any thing that I advice to the management ,still I didn't see any management problems so I think Canfor has good and organized management keep going .

I have been working at Canfor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They seem to have a strong management group, they are not afraid to spend some money when needed. They treat their workers pretty good for the most part, much better than in years past. They do a good job on new hire indoctrination. They work hard on safety but there is more work to be done.

    Cons

They could bump up the rewards for working safe. They do give you a gift certificate for every year you go accident free but the amounts are small. I'd like to see more 'trinkets' awarded like travel mugs, jackets, etc for breaking records and safety recognition. Better labeling for lockouts in some areas is needed.(this is a work in progress)

    Advice to Management

Some foreman still need to work on showing more respect towards hourly workers. A worker that feels he is appreciated will work harder and show up to work on a regular basis. An 'atta boy' or job well done after a big repair that has gone well is much appreciated by all workers.
