    Pros

People I worked with were great.

    Cons

Bad hours, horrible boss, was rarely treated with respect from customers.

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees with respect and give them opportunities for growth. I was told that I could move up into a new position but then was given less hours.

I worked at Canlan Ice Sports (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are nice for the most part, there's always gonna be some bad apples (ie. lazy, bad character). It's a fun environment and everyone is pretty chill. The work is easy.

    Cons

Very underpaid. Hard for managers to even reward well-performing employees with a decent raise, leading to great staff leaving and the meh staff staying on because they don't care. Middle management is underpaid, all of the young talent are leaving as they don't see a future with the company.

    Advice to Management

Look at the market and pay your staff better. You'll be able to keep better people and reduce your turnover. Don't keep negative people on your staff as they make it hard for new hires to want to stay.

I worked at Canlan Ice Sports full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    -Company RRSP contributions
-Good structure in place( but not necessarily used to it's fullest capacity)
    -Good benefits

    Cons

-Lack of local support from head offices
    - A lot of policies in place but only followed when convenient to H/O
    - Head Office does not show the same respect to facility management employees therefore causing a high turnover in high management levels within facilities
-Employees at a facility level do not feel part of Canlan
-Bottom dollar is the most important , if this is not achieved than the employees are not respected regardless of the circumstances
-Head Office HR department has difficulty understanding laws and regulations from other jurisdictions
-When high management must make a decision you are never protected. You are a puppet for the Upper+SR management/HO and when a decision goes wrong you will be blamed.
-The general manager has the responsibility of making sure the complexe succeeds. In some cases Upper/SR management take VETO over the General managers decisions and if something goes wrong, the general manager will be blamed for the mistake despite not having any say in the matter, and will need to deal with all the repercussions.
-Despite the GM having a hands on/direct experience with everything happening in the complexe, some SR management do not take the GM's recommendations into consideration when taking decisions. When a GM says something negative will happen, if action is not taken, and then there is a repercussion because no action was taken, the GM will be ignored, blamed for the consequences and will be left to try and fix the broken pieces.
-This company will expect you to give your all, to the point where you will make yourself ill. Once you have given everything and fall ill they will not support you, and will put you into a position where you will have no other choice but to leave the company.

    Advice to Management

If you take care of all your people first, your people will give their 100% to your business.
Don't only focus on upper management.
Cleaners, busboys, servers & receptionists along with all facility staff are your first connexion to your clients, make them realize how important they are to the company.
-Your employees talk out of experience, don't take this information lightly.

I worked at Canlan Ice Sports full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great colleagues (Internally)
    Schedule flexibility
    Great insurance
    RRSP program

    Cons

The Head Office management will suck everything out of you and once you have become exhausted and you will have given your all they will throw you out like a piece of garbage!
Many procedures/policies in place which are only respected when the company feels like following them in serious aspects.
Frugal company, not very much employee recognition.
It's all about the numbers; as an employee you are nothing but a tool and a number. Missing some person to person.
Make sure you have a backbone to stand up for what you believe is right.
Wages vary a lot if you are a women even if it is for the same position as a man with equal or less experience.
Always problems that do not get fixed until it's too late- snowball effect

    Advice to Management

Work on people skills and to stop taking your employees for granted.
