    Pros

    The people are really nice. Quite a nice work environment.

    Cons

    Very frustrating to get anything done. Most jobs are split up into small fragments then split over different countries while trying to negotiate an apathetic Japanese management structure. The recognition and reward of employees is poor and is covered up by various HR schemes.

    Advice to Management

    Get a competent western CEO for Europe and reduce the number of Japanese workers who have no idea about Europe or its people.

    Pros

    At the moment the only pro is the fact that nobody bothers what you really do. You can then go to work and pretend to do something, take home the salary and live with it. The company is full of people like this.

    Cons

    If you care about your career and you don't want to get stuck here then stay away.

    After the integration with OCÈ the company has no direction. Too many projects and no real focus on anything. Complete chaos

    The HR is rubbish too.

    Advice to Management

    Instead to hire expensive external people why you don't look inside first???

    Cons

    poor company for hard work recognition. work life balance is poor, company is out of date and losses are sure to come. poor senior managers

    work on taking time to meeting, and listen to the sales people

    Pros

    Clean building
    Good toilet facilities
    Reasonable canteen food
    (I'm really struggling here!)

    Cons

    Too many managers with over inflated views of themselves
    Very dull people
    Very dull atmosphere
    Most work is done for vanity or brand protection - no real value driven from Canon Europe to drive leads/sales within the National Sales Organisations across Europe
    Your face fits or it doesn't - mine did but I couldn't bear the process or politics any longer
    If you want to be agile and make positive progression, this is not the place for you. If you are a lazy middle manager that is happy to progress from time served, rather than good work and personality, then Canon Europe is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

    Well done for hanging on in for your huge pension. Please retire and let some young blood breathe life back into a dated brand.

    Pros

    None.

    Easy access to M25 to get away from office.

    Cons

    I came to Canon with almost a decade of IT marketing experience, many awards and superb references from every company I've worked at. For some reason though, Canon saw fit to hire a local church events manager for a European marketing role. This person: 1. has no real marketing experience and 2. has no IT industry experience.

    Don't waste your time on this company in Europe. The interview process is rigged for totally unqualified friends of management.

    Advice to Management

    Get a real and fair HR process or end up like Kodak very soon.

    Pros

    Some of the benefits are good or above the consensus e.g. the pension.
    The canteen at Stockley Park is consistently good.
    No one cares enough to keep tabs you you so you can pretty much do what you want.

    Cons

    Canon Europe is almost a comical stereotype of all that is wrong with big companies.

    The atmosphere at Stockley Park is like a mortuary. Low morale is endemic. The work done by Canon Europe is often irrelevant to the countries (NSO's). The NSO's take a dim view of the profligate waste that is Canon Europe e.g. they often question the value that Canon Europe delivers. The senior management team in the large do not care about their employees. Canon marches very much to its own tempo - the length of time it takes to get even little projects off the ground is simply ludicrous - it takes about 2 years to make the changes that were needed 2 years ago. If you are ambitious or want to make a difference, you are wasting your time even looking at Canon Europe.

    Advice to Management

    Get out and speak to some real customers.

    Pros

    Canon is a well-established and respected brand offering a strong product lineup, especially for production printing and consumer, cinema and medical imaging. Its offices in Stockley Park, an attractively landscaped business park close to Heathrow, offer a multicultural environment and good canteen facilities to compensate for the almost complete absence of alternative infrastructure in the immediate vicinity. The working environment and methodologies tend firmly towards the sterile and unstimulating but this may suit individuals looking for an unchallenging 9-5 position.

    Cons

    Some of Canon's key products fall within rapidly declining sectors. Its senior management is noted for its conservatism and consistent failure to respond sufficiently quickly to market trends and changes. It is burdened with excessive middle-management, much of which staggeringly inept and uninspiring, lacking training even in the basics of management, with poor product and process knowledge, a tendency to micro-manage, scant awareness of the skillsets of team members and little guidance from senior management. The lack of investment in its staff - training is virtually non-existent - and of recognition of achievement reflects very poorly on Canon as compared to other companies. Communication is inconsistent, leading to suspicion and a lack of trust towards management among staff. Canon is still extremely conservative in comparison with its peers as regards all forms of flexible working arrangement. Even the quickest walk around the offices would reveal very poor morale and a lack of focus in some departments, as well as a working environment lacking the stimulus and creativity that might be expected from a brand known for its imaging.

    Advice to Management

    Creativity and training is urgently required to address issues around endemic poor morale and staggeringly inept middle management.

    Cons

    Currently cutting headcount and costs under the guise of becoming more customer centric although management have been working on making the changes for some time the results are not forthcoming at all. There is no good way to progress your career in the company unless you are already working with the chosen few people in power. No true development initiatives or paths for employees and very poor learning opportunities. Morale is very low and many people leave already. AVOID THIS CAREER GRAVEYARD!

    Pros

    Very good people who are below the management level, they are focused, friendly & have a good understanding of the business without these people Canon would fall apart

    Cons

    Senior Management are a waste of space, always jobs for the boys & friends of the boys. HR are as helpful as a Chocolate teapot & are not helpful & have no understading of what is happening in the real world outside of Canon. Salary is below market value & they are presently making lots of redundancies too

    Advice to Management

    Management are a waste of space, they place people with no experience into the key rolls & never look at people who are lower down the chain to bring in new ideas. Stop moving people sideways all of the time

    The most biased top heavy, internally, Boys Club focussed company I've worked for.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your customers, that's not always the ones that buy from you but the loyal interval ones that work for you. Don't create visions and then work backwards and make out the staff came up with it, the bright ones will see through it and you'll left with the mushrooms to run it
