I have been working at Canon USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The employees, not management are a joy to work with.

    Cons

Most Managers and upper managements are a joke, very rude to internal customers. Many managers work from home, which is not allowed, how does that happen?

    Advice to Management

Instead of promoting the same upper managemement in NY, look at the regions, plenty of excellent workers, they don't recognize. Or maybe they do, but want to keep the employee at the working level, to make upper management look good.

I worked at Canon USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    35-Hour Work Week
    Some Travel
Many good hard-working people, even in upper management positions

    Cons

Senior Management runs department without internet marketing knowledge and fakes it
Lets their titles do the talking for them
Won't listen to staff suggestions, even if they're accurate and have proof, examples, etc
Overreact to everything and everything is urgent. No idea how to prioritize

    Advice to Management

You have some good people rising the ranks there. Listen to them. When senior management gets the survey and they see how poorly people think of them, don't be surprised. You earned those low grades. You're absolutely terrible people that say you care about your staff, when you most certainly do not. You take people for granted and now people are dropping like flies. 8 people have left your group in less than 1 year. Not a good sign that leadership in the department is trusted. Keep turning a blind eye to the problem, which is both of you. Stop resting on your laurels and realize you're losing great talent all because you refuse to acknowledge the issue with "you know who". Great job launching the website too. The lead on that project did a bang-up job. Don't show up at 9:00 on the dot, you'll be marked late!

I have been working at Canon USA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Large company with good benefits.

    Cons

Various forms of favoritism are clear and present within the organization. If you are Japanese, you will be given plenty of opportunities. If you are not, good luck on finding your own way with much less support. For instance, there is an established job transfer system to gain different skills, but only if you are a Japanese expat!

    Advice to Management

American employees feel under appreciated and passed over for the 5 year Japanese expat needs. It's a constant worry for career development. Trump is coming for you and Americans can do the same jobs, better!

    Pros

Outstanding team of people. Positive corporate culture. Great passion for technology and art for which it's used.

    Cons

Pay is substantially lower than competitors. Lack of advancement opportunity and low pay breeds forced apathy.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people what they are worth.

I worked at Canon USA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the few large name-brand corporations with HQ located on Long Island.

    Cons

Little promotion from within the ranks, even less if you are female. Inertia is rewarded and there are numerous employees who have managed to remain employed for many years by staying under the radar. Once you are given a high profile assignment, it is likely a prelude to demotion or termination. Continuous culling of experienced employees from the ranks to reduce costs with little to no acknowledgement of their departure or the reduction in skill or product history, followed by hiring for the same function in other areas of the company. Demeaning focus on badging-in and out times, absolutely no flexible work in terms of hours or remote. The major decision-making and management of the company occurs after 9pm when Tokyo opens for business and is almost entirely orchestrated by the Japanese. Board of Directors is completely out of touch and have little to no impact on or understanding of what is actually happening in the company, or in the marketplace. Made dozens of constructive recommendations in my exit interview, none of which were ever circulated to my department management.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck. Your loss.

    Pros

Friendly co-workers. Work is not pressing everyday.

    Cons

No room to grow. Perception is to keep the high contributors at bay and do not promote.

    Advice to Management

    Stop the chaos.

    Pros

Smart people, talented individuals, quiet environment

    Cons

I witnessed mental instability in the form of desk pounding, yelling, the enraged squeezing a Costco Peanut Butter Pretzel jar, and the muttering of curse words regarding a project sponsor.

Some of the above information was higher up regarding such events and nothing was done.

Individuals here 15+ years will not get removed due to company culture.

If interviewing here, find out who the old timers are and know that younger Canon employees will not sell out the dirty laundry.
